I was watching tv...volume at low listening level and my receiver, harman kardon avr 7200, just shut off...no lights...nothing. The fan i have hooked up to the back ac outlet is not running either. I checked all the connections, tried different outlets (that I know work), but before I contact Harmon, does anyone know of an internal fuse that I could check to see if it is blown? I dont want to take off the housing (dont want to void the warrenty), but if it could be just a fuse that I could look at from the outside to see if its blown??

Thanks for the responces
Greg

thanks bitpoh...I searched over at AVS after I posted this, didnt come accross that thread but that was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I will call HK tomorrow and see what they say. There is a service shop near my house so in order to save the warrenty, i might take it there. If not...off to radio shack (it might give me an excuse to get an spl meter)!!!

WOW. If it is a blown fuse, at a low listening level, I wonder what will happen when you try to impress your neighbors with your setup? I guess nothing as it won't even get to the starting line? :D

I've seen fuses kind of "deteriorate" over time in amps, especially the speaker ones that used to be so common. It seems like either a momentary loud passage, or maybe a turn on "thump" caused them to fail. I have seen fuses that looked bad (The wire inside was saggy, or actually looked like it had gotten very hot) from the factory, and these almost always seemed to pop later on for no apparent reason. Sometimes it was the only fuse I would have close to the right size, and it would work for a while, most of the time, then fail a week or so later, and the new replacement fixed it for good.

Many times I have replaced a fuse that blows for no reason, and it never blows again, so I think the factory ones are sometimes bad too. Why it sometimes takes so long for them to blow is a mystery, usually, if a fuse looked bad, it didn't usually last a month..

A blown driver in one of your speakers can make an amp behave this way.

Ive had this thing at concert levels for long periods of time...It is a work horse and hasnt given me a problem whatsoever. Thats what is confusing me. I was just watching TV and it shut off. I should have an update tomorrow. I looked over a avs, and it seems to be a little problem with the unit. the same fuse (there are 5 in the receiver) seemes to blow after a period of time. Its still under warrenty so its not that big of deal. Just another pain in the A$$.

Well, it sounds like a design issue if many units experience this. It shouldn't blow like that

Kinda beats the alternative though ;)

Greg,

Have you fixed your receiver yet? The shut-off exactly happened to my HK AVR 7200 too a week ago. I am still looking for solutions.

Thanks,
Ting
