Hi
I am completely non-plussed with what's on the market.
I want to record my favorite tv programmes, play dvd's and play re writable dvd's. I want something simple to use, reliable and not too expensive. I'm probably a techno phobe. Any way suggestions please

Crutchfield has a dozen models from Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, and Toshiba with prices starting at $199 (and going to $699). All of which record shows, play DVDs, and play one of the formats of self-recorded DVD media. Some even upconvert SD DVD to HD, and few other have built in harddrives for recording TV without needing new disks.
I've never tried any of them, becuase my cable box has a DVR, but what is wrong with any of these products? (which you seem to be non-plussed about)

Thank you for replying. And I'm sure there's nothing wrong with any of the products. I don't understand the jargon. I want a simple life, have you ever tried to buy washing powder?

Finding something good and cheap is rare! The brands ninja mentioned are all reputable! The jargon he's talking about is just that. You will have to decide what features you want and don't want. The more expensive ones would have a hard drive built within, which will let you record on memory without using a dics and more features to drive up the price.:)

Isn't it next to the fabric softener?

The Sony RDR GX330 is fairly easy to use and has gotten good reviews.
I just picked up a Toshiba DR-5 and it seems pretty simple to use...so far anyway. Pioneer also has some pretty simple menus, my wife's had no complaints so far.

Ah ha but did you want bio or non bio, enzyme free or not, softener added, conditioner added, whites, coloureds, woolens or silks and delicates. Life just ain't simple!
To all those who have kindly suggested - thanks.
So what is HD ready and when it comes will the product I have bought still be compatible.
