I'd like to choose a gift 4 my mom's B-day,
and decided to purchase a new DVD-player,
for the old one is used for so long and does not work properly some time.
My bf recommend http://www.opentip.com/catalog/DVD_Player-6152_9456.html
but I have no idea whether it's good or not, the prices of different products vary so much!
would u guys to give me some advice for me to purchase online?

Is she using it with a TV set I would guess? Casual watching?
The link has some with multi standard TV systems. Are you overseas?
How new is the TV? What kind of video signal will it accept, S-video, component?
At those prices on the link, either will do. It has become a commodity item, replace it not fix it.

I have given a couple of the $30 cyberhome players as gifts. The in-laws are still using theirs after a couple years of light use. Also saw that the local video store has one of these, and they are playing movies 10-12 hours a day.
If the giftee has an HDTV and you are feeling generous, check out the $150 player from oppodigital. This will upscale DVDs to HD resolution and would be a video upgrade vs. an entry level replacement.
