That's absolutely amazing. I must have missed the news Patsy died in June.

Too bad that she didn't live to see this. Now I kind of feel bad that I didn't feel bad that she had passed because I thought it was retribution. Still, there are things about that case that make me think that she/they knew something about it when it happened, but I hope not.

Wouldn't it be a big smack in the media's face if they found this guy guilty? They did paint a perfect picture on how the parents must have been in on it. Patsy obviously didn't care for the media, and they really rammed it back in her face. It's amazing the spin the media puts on stories to shape the publics opinion.

Allow me to be the first to admit my stupidity;
Given the apparent lack of evidence in the case I was ready to be judge and jury to convict the parents.
I'm feeling personally guilty about this one.
It is a shame that Patsy's last years had to be spent in hell.

Yes. The Ramsey's have been unfairly judged and "convicted" (by the media and public opinion) for almost ten years. It's about time the true culprit be brought to justice and the Ramsey's be vindicated, even if it is after her passing.

Some good news

finely, someone was very DILIGENT in their efforts. Just to bad it took this long, but now some peace of mind for the family and mother(Patsy) can rest in peace.:(

...the Salem Witch Trials saga continues in 2006...

Nomo - blame that one on the media. What if someone came forward as the killer in the OJ case? The issue is, everyone wants to put a cap on horrific events, and many don't want to take the time to seek the truth. When the media tries to fill in the blanks, the public makes assumptions based on their so called "facts." The media is the best advertising exec in the business.

The only 'media' i've seen that kept this story going in the first place were trash-news like the supermarket magazines, tabloids, and crappier network TV shows.

Where the heck do you people get your news from?

The media was all over it. There were DOZENS of "documentaries" on the case which clearly leaned towards the Ramseys having something to do with it. It is kind of like Nostradamus' predictions - you can apply aspects of a prediction to any situation to make it fit if you want to.

Wrong. I remember the hoopla quite well. I also remember where it was coming from. And coming from. And coming from. Hint: it wasn't from sources like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, or Washington Post.

I acknowledge that we live in a sensationalist, lowest-common-denominator 'news' culture, but that doesn't mean I have to feed it.

The analogy to Nostradamus is very good. Stories about his 'predictions' appear regularly only in the supermarket junk-news rags too, and on idiotic cable 'documentaries'

I should have been more specific - I was speaking of television news media. Fox was one of the worst for placing blame on Patsy - but all were involved. I think we are all shocked at this outcome.

Actually, just about all major papers, US and abroad alike, have been covering the story over the past decade as well, often times on the front page. Including the: New York Times, Chicago Tribune, AP wire, London Daily News, etc.

I don't need all the gorey details. Just catch the sick monster, convict him, and duly punish him.

Now the media is hinting that this guy is a kook, and could have fabricated the entire story. At least this one will be an open and shut case. They guy may just want some limelight after being fired from an all boys school in Bangkok.

By CATHERINE TSAI and JON SARCHE, Associated Press Writers
"Legal experts said DNA evidence will likely be key: DNA was found beneath JonBenet's fingernails and inside her underwear, and authorities have never said whether it matches anyone in an FBI database ... Karr was given a mouth-swab DNA test in Bangkok, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation. The results of that test were not known. Karr will be given another DNA test when he returns to the United States in the next several days, the official said... We should all heed the poignant advice of John Ramsey," said Lacy, quoting the girl's father. "Do not jump to conclusions, do not rush to judgment, do not speculate. Let the justice system take its course."

Bangkok jails aren't as "friendly" as American jails.

For whatever reason, he may have rightly figured that it's in his best interests to be shipped back to the good ole US of A as soon as possible.

Once he gets back here and goes on trial it could go either way. If he did it, he's in a US jail which is light years better than the jails there. If not, he walks, but he walks out in the USA, not Thailand.

Based on some of what is being said now, I'm starting to doubt that this guy did it, not the least of which being that his wife/ex-wife or whatever says he was with her at the time of the murder and that he was obssessed with the JonBenet case as well as with the Polly Klaas case. I guess we'll have to see what happens when they bring him back here and start investigating further.

Of course, but usually only when there was real news to report. Which is to say, sporadically at best. Like now. I've been a more or less daily reader of the NY Times, Post, WSJ and a few others of that ilk for years, and I can vouch that the number of times this story has been in them is miniscule, compared to the absurd amount of coverage network TV, supermarket tabloids, trashy cable documentaries, and rags like People gave it. WHo is eating all this stuff up?
