We've been pretty impressed with the forum software so far - its flexible and scalable... and the mod options are pretty much straightforward.

And you can post images! :) Or attach them if you don't have a way to host your own (see below.)

Let me know if you need any info on anything...

I'm familiar with vBulletin, and it is very nice software. It runs nice and fast, too.

This seems like a pretty nice place you have here.

Now if only Scen would reply to my emails...

Hi Guys,

Is this really happening? The former hang apparently does not exist, according to my last visit there. What a shame. I actually paid the $20.00.
Oh well. I hope we can pick it up.

I honestly don't know what's happening, Seth. I'm all dizzy in the head and I have a stomach ache because of all of this. I just want it to be over. I feel partially responsible for causing it.

jrmintz

Darren, that's silly - you're not responsible. Someone chose to act in an infantile way and enforce his authority by kicking over the table. We're all in a service business, and we have to learn not to alienate the clientele. There are ways to institute charges if it's necessary, and ways to make the case so that it's compelling, not coercive. It's throwing the baby out with the bathwater to get pissy because people resent paying. Of course they do - it doesn't mean they won't, just that you have to persuade them the right way. Things have a natural lifetime, and if this one is over maybe it's time to start again. It's the people who make the experience.

Regards,

Seth

if any of you have email addresses of fellow members. drop em an email to let them know we have a neutral place. whether it becomes permanent or temporary atleast we have somewhere to stay in touch...

its my hope that this becomes permanent as clint keeps this place running nice and smooth... also we have plenty of bandwidth and minimal banner ads to deal with :)

be back soon

I feel partially responsible because early on in this fight, I'm the one who pointed out that groupdiy.org is an available domain name. I can see the statement I made had an effect on some folks.

The possibility as I Saw it, was that if it were necessary, GroupDIY could move to its own server, and we could retain a good relationship with the rest of RO. I can see how that was foolish thinking now.

I've been through splits like this before. This is not the first time this has happened, and it will not be the last.

I was once upon a time heavily involved in the webcomics community. I even had my own once. There was, however, a massive split, caused by a few factors:

1) Keenspot thinking they were the only bee's knees in all of webcomicdom.
2) The DALnet IRC network being flaky as hell.
3) Hostility from certain members of Keenspace (the free webcomic hosting side of Keenspot).

Heh, you can definitely see my bias in that situation.

I chose my side then, and I do so again now, even though I do not want to.

Here's my take, (...which is worth approximately what you all paid for it!) The people made the old Tech Talk a success. I would dearly love for the nightmare to be over and for the forum to magically re-appear. If it doesn't, then my second choice is for all the great minds to magically gather and regroup.

If there is any chance at all that I can share and benefit as much as I've enjoyed doing so at the old hangout, I'll be happy. I hope that we never get any squabbling over petty stuff; So many other forums that I've been to (car stuff etc.) are rife with that nonsense!

So the main guy decided that "it's my ball and you can't play with it any more". We'll find another place to play, and we can get another ball.

The tragedy is the loss of access to a very considerable archive of authoritative information. If this is to be our new home, I can at least say that the software reminds me much more of the older, more familiar, "comfortable" appearance at R.O.

Now... if it pleases the court, I'd like to get down to the serious business of teching and sharing info.

It's a huge shame that it all happened, but as long as I get my tech fix, and I can relax and indulge my twisted "sensa-yuma", I'm a happy camper.

I know I wasn't really one of the great minds, but I at least hope I was able to contribute, even if it was only as an IT guy.

Actually, when all this started going to hell, I was about to post a question about simplified FET-based compressor designs. You know, in the same way the What Compressor can be considered a "simplified" version of an LA2a.

Well, it sort of can, anyway.

I'll try not to derail the current topic with actual tech talk. :D

My personal opinion is that Chris is using the "hack" story as an easier way of pulling the plug. I think his claim is completely bogus, he read the post from fum and he pulled the plug. its that simple.

As I have said to all I have emailed. This place is completely welcome to us staying here if we want it as our new home. Check your address book and email as many TTers as you can... give them this address but ask them to not post it publicly over at RO.

Atleast we have a place to discuss options. It is my hope that we stay here rather than trying to re-invent the wheel but the majority will decide.

Does anyone have an email addy for PRR?

we probably should get Kev here too...

I think I found PRR's email.

At the bottom of this page:

http://music-club.rutgers.edu/

You'll see the email for a Paul Reid. Considering PRR once used preid as a username at the old ProSoundWeb RecPit, I'm sure this is him.

http://music-club.rutgers.edu/ is the site that hosts PRR's now famous vari-mu compressor using 12AU7s.

no biggies guys,

its just text :)

the community of people is more important.

the most important thing right now is to email as many techtalkes you have in your address book

tell them to come here to talk about groupDIY's future....

makes no sense talking over at RO... still trying to get CJ here... he seems set on using the old bbs software :\

this stuff isnt that bad is it?

Hi,

I did not post this over at RO, but this Bigtree guy is the most arrogant jerk I have read in a long time. I don't intend to go back there after all the crap he spewed out.
Let me know if I can help somehow.

UBB (the old RO forum) also costs real money to buy. It's not Open Source like phpBB is, which is what RO is using now.

vBulletin is fine, although I don't particularly like how it won't mark threads read as I read them. That's a minor annoyance, though, and wouldn't get in the way. Heck, the old UBB software never did that right either.

The only goal at this point is to communicate with the members so that we can work on a plan...

emailing back and forth wont work.

I just wanna say that I´m here. I know that this is a very bad situation, but In some way I felt that it could happen anytime. That´s why I´ve saved lots of TT discussions to my HD (what I felt was very important in fo the classic projects :):)), so if you need this info in the future for a CD or maybe putting it online, let me know...

Also, lets make everyone get in here, so we can discuss what are we going to do.

Nice to see you all!

Let me make things clear...

we are welcome to stay here for good but I think that decision is up to the entire group.. this is why we need to email as many as we know so that they can come here and contribute to the discussion of the next move.

I just made my last post at RO. What a duesy. Haha. I think I made my feelings clear. I was crude. I was vulgar. I think Mr. Jenrick would have been proud. :D

Now, maturity please. I'd like to help things out from the beginning this time around. I am up to contribute in any way I can.
