What Floor Standing Speakers to AVOID

This is actually a follow up to my previous thread (http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23371) where I asked for some help with the selection. I got some good responses and i spent more time reading all the posts.
Considering my budget is around 1500 bucks for a 6.1 system,
What are the speakers to avoid ? That way even if I screw up my selection, it won't be that big a screw up.

To many to list either way,good or bad. Online Axioms are a good buy but if you need to listen,then what brands do the carry around you?

If you want "good" floorstander, consider spending all or most of your budget on the fronts. Most floorstander in the few hundred range will produce sloppy, boomy base, but there are a few exceptions.

For example, av123.com will be releasing a floorstander version of their Onix X-LS speakers for $300/pair and a dual mid, powered woofer version is in the works for $600/pair.

This may sound dumb but floors may not be your best bet for H/T since the sub will assist your LFE or bass and as I found out setting to small when sub is used is the way to go with big or small speaker!!!So buy the best speaker in your price range AND PUT THE REST INTO EITHER SVS,HSU OR VELO :D

Depending on your AVR, it could be most of them. Floorstanders usually require more current to reach similar dB's. Some are rated as low as 4 ohms, and really need a flagship AVR or separate power amp to get decent bass from the woofers.

Avoid the white van, and avoid anything that seems to good to be true. There are so many brands out there, heck there are even some whose certain lines I hate and others I really like.

Maybe this isn't the best help, but I think it answers the question. Speakers are kinda like girlfriends sometimes you have to get to know them a little before you can decide whether you like them or not, and you really don't want us picking your girlfriend for you, do you?

Very good point!!!
If you listen to alot of non new style music and sub is too much for it and running without may require you to want floors. But if you listen to newer music and set of floors IMO are useless since the sub takes over the low end duties that you would spend the extra to get floors for making that extra 20-40 hz you get below useless.

And someone had mentioned, which isnt true, but the part of his maybe ideal is, is floors can make for sloppy bass. Its not how cheap on goood brands that it does it, is most floors today in affordable ranges at 2 ways and its hard to get a speaker to have solid mids and carry lows well. It has to sacrifice something in some range!
