Well,

I went and saw this movie last night, obviously going in with ultra low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised.

They cut out ALOT of talking(the actors are not suited for it anyway) and replaced it with driving. And the driving, hot damn! Very nice cars, and great bass with the V8 powered ones.

One reason this movie was much better then the others, is the CGI. In 2 fast 2 furious, the CGI sucked! In this movie, they didn't have any of those front bumper shots, they were real.

And the cars! Lets just say Nissan is going to be much more popular after this movie. :D

Oh, and theres a couple familiar faces. ;)

Over all, If your into cars, and want to see some awesome driving with a better story line then any of the other TFTF movies, I recommend this movie.

What do you mean more popular? :D The previews looked better for this one than the others.

--> I drive an S13 that is the USDM version of the Sil-Eighty in Initial D (KA24DE, not SR20DET).

My only concern is that now you will have a whole new group of morons who think they can drift in FWD cars...

The new Nissan GT-R sports car has already been getting a cult like following in Japan. I'll be happy when it is released in the U.S., a buddy of mine won't stop talking about it! Supposed to be awesome.

Haven't seen the new fast & furious, happy to hear it was better than expected (low).

It sounds like he's saying the Nissan brand $ucks right now. ;) I've always been a fan of Nissan.

Every time I drive by a new Z Roadster, I'm always checking my mental bank account. That is one awesome ride...especially in silverstone.

A lot of guys aren't familiar with the R34 Skyline GT-R V-Spec - something not available to us here in the US. That's one amazing ride.

Base Price: 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 - $89,500

From Automobile Magazine:
The Skyline GT-R, as well as being a star of video games, was hugely successful in racing and was a one-time holder of the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for production cars, a feat which has become a sort of holy grail for performance-car manufacturers.

It (the 2008 model) will also be the first time that Nissan has officially imported the Skyline into the United States, so the company needs the car to live up to the hype that has been built around it ... the target is to produce a car that will rival the speed and driver appeal of the Porsche 911 Turbo without any on-limit trickiness ... Nissan is apparently aiming for a 0-to-60-mph time of 3.8 seconds, with a top speed north of 180 mph.
Here's a few pics - old and new...

Nissan, Shmissan. Give me Detroit muscle anyday. I have to admit the new Z is one sharp ride, though!

Glad to hear the third installment is a good one. To me, the only good thing about the first was the Dodge doing a wheelie off the line at the end. Instant woody for me:D  At least the second had more Detroit iron in it and I thought it was better overall than the first. I really hated to see that guy crashing first gen Montes in demo derbys. Every time I think of that I have to go out in the garage and pet my '70. Bought her back in '76 when she only had 60k one owner miles on her. Wonder if they have any of those cars left? I may could salvage a few parts like a 12 bolt rear or four bolt main block.:D

Glad to hear about the great driving. Looking forward to seeing it, but I think I'll wait for the DVD. Wonder how they would stack up against Steve McQueen in Bullet or Brian Newman in Vanishing Point. Dude, that Challenger was screeming!

You will like the beginning of this movie if you like Detriot muscle.

Buck,

I wasn't saying Nissan sucks, but there's a BUTT LOAD of 350Z's in this movie.

Oh and Buck, I'd rather have a R34 GTR Vspec-II ;)

i'm kinda dreading the aftermath of this "drifting" movie. i've had a 240 (s-13) for 6 yrs now, full suspension, brakes, etc... im only 23 but these damn kids try to follow me around corners & drift (they always slide off the road), i can only imagine what i'll see in the aftermath of this movie, argggg... but the rumble from the v-8's in the movie sound fine to me :D

I took my kids to see the Pixar film "Cars" last week. One of the first scenes was the little Red race car called McQueen racing to make it over railroad tracks to beat out a train at a crossing. I thought - what idiot producer thought up tht brilliant idea, and how did that make it past the censors? Cute movie overall, but wasn't as good as Toy Story or Nemo. The sound and picture quality was outstanding, but the storyline suffered a bit. (sorry Sheep, didn't mean to hijack the thread).

Sheep,

Is the V-Spec II available on GT4? How does it run with the other exotics?

The Skyline is an incredible car, one I've always drooled over. The last import car show I went to, there were 2 R34s in the parking lot. Too bad it is tough to get a real one here. I don't consider the 350/G-35 coupe to be a "real" Skyline. I don't care if it is Japanese or American or German or Italian, a great car is a great car.

That is the funniest thing to watch :) I'm on the throttle, wiggling the tail as I exit the corner and they're pushing to the outside or backing out... I ordered my suspension before I even took possesion of the car :D I just received my SPL racing swaybar bushings. Unfortunately, I have one cylinder slightly losing compression right now :( (and despite that, the car still runs great), so I am looking for options right now. I don't have the extra cash for a DET swap at the moment, so I'll most likely be looking for a newer KA. I'd love to drop a redtop in there...

I've been a die hard Nissan fan since I was able to drive. The 240 market was already ridiculous before this movie, I can only imagine how far it's going to go now.

I would love to find a first or second year Z or even a little Datsun 510.

then add this...

I'm going to guess here and say that GT4 stands for gran turismo 4? If so, I can't remember (been awhile) but it IS in GT3.

My favorite imports are the AE86 and the GTR Vspec-II.

I'd still take a Twin Turbo Supra over a Skyline.
And for the price, the new Z06 is still a quicker car than the Skyline (and just about every Porsche ever produced).

For pure speed and handling, dollar for dollar, you really can't beat the Mitsu Evo or Subaru WRX STi. Then again, for under 12 grand, you can blow 'em all away with a Ninja ZX14.

Ummm, Paul Weller isn't exactly what I would call a good actor...

If this one is a B movie what would that make the other two?? The first two were absolute garbage.

Agreed.

One thing that gave this movie an edge is the fact that it was shot in tokyo. Drifting was born there, same with rice rockets, so why not shoot there?

Prelude = FWD. Fun and a good car, but not on the top of my list of cars to own because I like hatchbacks. I've owned 4 Civic hatchbacks (2 Si's), and 4 Integras - a GS (currently have 2 "DA"s, one modified, one stock), a GSR (sold) and a Type R (wrecked  ). I'll take an Integra over a Prelude every time (comparable models). The GSR was a little slower than a 'Lude SH, but the R was definitely quicker - by 3rd I could pull ahead of them. My S13 is more fun to drive than any of them, on a completely stock motor :) (with suspension of course).

Interesting note, now that the RSX has been discontinued from the Acura lineup, I would guess that means we'll see a new Prelude coming in the near future to fill the gap...

Best Honda = S2000 because it is RWD!! :D
