Hi guys.

I am finishing up my basement and one of the rooms (20 x 14) is going to be my 'home theatre'. I am having a front projection system. I am planning on buying the Yamaha HTR 5990 receiver but am very confused about the speakers. There are so many brands and so many reviews and it gets overwhelming.
My current home theatre has a Yamaha HTR 54x0 mated with the Bose.

A friend of my suggested the Athen f2.2s considering my budget was around 1500 for a 6.1 system. I went to Best buy the other day and had the opportunity to listen to the Athena WS 100. I went on a week day and they were pretty free. So, the guy out there was useful. They sounded pretty good and they looked pretty decent. Besides, they are selling for 300 a pair and with my coupons I can get them for around 250 a pair.

I would like to complement these with the Athena WS 60s for Rear and center channels.

Am I taking the right step here. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

GG

I haven't listened to the ws series but heard some comments both ways but I would say the F2's (AUDITION LINE) would kill them...Just check my sig!! lol:)

The Athena audition series performs much better than the WS line, however, in your budget, there are other options.
Check out the 5.1 bookshelf systems from SVS and av123.com for >$1k. Axiom Audio, PSB, and Paradigm and also good options.

I agree, the Athena Audition Series will be much better than the WS line. If you want the Audition Series don’t get them from BB.
Use http://www.audioadvisor.com they are an authorized dealer so the warranty will be good. Also they are much cheaper there. You can get a pair of F2.2's, B2.2's and a C1.2 from them for under $800.
I would then suggest looking at getting a sub from Hsu or SVS as they will out perform the Athena subs.
You said you have a 6.1 system but you don’t necessarily have to use the rear center channel. You can buy the Athena R1.2 to use at the rear center speaker but you can’t get it from Audio Advisor.

Check out this link to get it at the lowest price from an authorized dealer.

Thanks guys for the input.

I went to the local bb again today and tried the WS 100 and WS 60. Somehow, it didn't feel right. I don't know.

I stopped by the Klipsch centre and they were demoing 'Hotel California' on the F3 system. Sounded much better but still a little top heavy.

What do you think of :
01. Klipsh F3
02. Infinity Primus 250s

Thanks

If you like Klipsch and Infinity, check out the Klipsch Reference series and the Infinity Beta series. These product lines are superior to the stuff you will find at BB or CC and are usually availble sold dealers. Stop by a B&M dealer and while you are there, look for Paradigm and PSB.

Also, don't rule out some of the internet direct companies that offer great bang for the buck including av123.com (onix X-LS), Axiom Audio, Ascend, and SVS.
