What the heck? I just saw these in an audio magazine and wonder how these sound. They have no cabinet enclosure...so I'm assuming they used two 15" woofers to make lower frequencies audible? Has anyone auditioned them? They are $15,000 speakers.

Welcome to the world of IB. Apparently, this enclosure (though not really if you think about it ;) ) is supposed to sound the best through the midrange.
Rip Van Woofer has the Linkwitz Orion speakers that use IB and they are highly regarded.

The website states...
"The R 909 is the perfect match for the highest quality amplifiers on the market. However, with a high sensitivity of 89dB and offering a very stable load at 4ohms it doesn't need a power plant to drive it… although it will handle more than 800 Watts of peak power if you really want to go there!"
Yeah, that's pretty efficient - if you plan on plugging it into a wall. I'm sure they sound very good, but IMHO - what a waste of 4 perfectly capable 15" drivers. Without a cabinet, you most likely would get similar bass llistening to 4 - 8" sealed woofers. But what do I know. Anyone with that type of cash to blow on a set of speakers must know more than me. ;)
