Distorted Kenwood Home Receiver

<font color='#000000'>My friend recently gave me a Kenwood Home Stereo Receiver.
The model is KR-V5550. When I hooked it up to my CD player, the sound was coming out all distorted, like a radio station that isn't coming in very well. I hooked up a speaker one at a time to each channel, and it always did the same thing. I know this isn't too much information to go on, but if someone could steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

<font color='#000000'>Perhaps check the variable output on your CD player (if your CD player has these, AND you are using them) to make sure it isn't maxed out and playing distorted audio.

Next, hook something else into the receiver if you can to see what it does with another input source (like a VCR or anything that has RCA line level outputs).

if you find all sources sound the same and it is your reciever that is distorted it may be that the capacitors are starting to go. Also, the rca jacks may have loose conections causing a hum or buzz like a turntable that isnt grounded. maybe pop open the civer and have a look at the solder joints on the inputs and the speaker outputs

True. Very true (not about you being old, Isiberian :D). However, someone decided to join and post something in the hopes of being helpful, so I'll commend that. :)
