View Full Version : Why no reviews on Polk?

Went into a Tweeter the other day and had the salesman play each set of bookshelves to compare for myself. They don't carry much, compared to what I've been reading here in the professional review section. Mostly Polk, I did like the LSi17's (something like that). Had more bass and presence than most others. When I asked, salesman said they don't carry Klipsch, but that Klipsch is probably better and more high end than anything they carry. Why no reviews on Polk? Are they more inferior?

A few of us are still anxiously waiting on Audioholics to review PSB speakers. I don't why they haven't reviewed them yet given the request to do so is almost a year old. I don't understand their policy regarding reviews. We'll just have to sit tight and wait some more.

My guess is Polk has not sent speakers to be reviewed. As far as being inferior, I'm biased as I own Polk speakers and feel like they have very competitive speakers in each respective price category. The LSi in perticular are a very nice line of speakers.
Edit: Polk subs do suck and I would say are inferior especially if compared to other subs for the same $.

I would review the RTi8s, but I'm pretty new to HT so it wouldn't be from someone very knowledgable.

Do you have any idea as to when you may get a chance to review them? This waiting is kinda tough ya know ;)

I think the best route to take on this is to contact Polk and request they send speakers to audioholics for review (I would like to see a RTi8 review as well). It is not the responsibility of this site to run down manufactures and beg for products to review. If you are serious about seeing reviews on Polk products then you should be encouraging Polk to provide speakers for review.

If you want to know more about the polks and want to know what other people who own them think just go to here: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/index.php? You can find a lot of info there.

The only problem with most forums dedicated to a specific brand is most of those guys are fanatic fan boi tweakers and it will be HIGHLY unlikely that you will hear negative things about the product. That is not to say they are or aren't a good product, but it isn't the BEST place to get info on the product.
I've owned the LSi7s. They're decent, but at MSRP, they are way overpriced for their performance. Build quality is excellent on them though.

Yeah I see your point.

Amen to that my friend. If enough of you bug Polk to have us review their products, they may eventually contact us. We've seen them at trade shows in the past but they didn't seem overly eager for online publication press.

Do you guys have to return what they give you for review? I am guessing you do or you guys could make a business out of this, lol.

Funny I should come across this tonight...I have an OLD pair of Polk SDA 2B towers that I still have as my front mains...received my Avia set up disc tonight and was happy to see the old Polks can still kick out the low bass...was audible to just about 25. Was surprised that my Axiom surrounds were also audible to just about 32...didn't buy them for the lfe but I guess it's a plus! I haven't heard many newer Polks but I've been fairly happy with my oldies esp. considering I paid less than $400 for the pair about 10 years ago(were floor models). Now I'm researching for a pair of towers for the soon to be finished game room...

I guess your friendly Tweeter salesman has forgotten about the good old days when they used to sell Klipsch speakers.

If his store carries the LSi and RTi's, then he's wrong. Those Polks are a better made speaker than the Klipsch Synergy. The Klipsch Reference line as well as their THX Ultra II are definitely a well made speaker (but $$$), and known for high spl's compared to Polk's low spl.
You really can't compare the two, as they use different tweeters, and have totally different sound signatures.
Polks do a nice job in turning AVR's into portable electric space heaters. ;)
Sparks, what did you think of the Mirage towers?
