After reading the latest rant against War of the Worlds (2005), so many people with different takes on the movie. I wondered about some of the titles in my collection. So I figured I'd ask the group.
What movies do you have in your collection, that you know up front suck, but you love them anyway. I'm not talking about difference of opinion between you and someone else, I mean movies you know are bad, but you can't help loving them.
I'll kick it off:
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961, with rubber shark and octopus)
The Wraith (That's right, with Charlie Sheen)
Reign of Fire (C'mon, dragons that eat ash?!)
Jeepers Creepers 2 (Just look at it, how can you not love a movie called Jeepers Creepers ...2!)

LMAO. My wife cannot tolerate Starship Troopers and I could never figure out why until I read your post. I forgot she HATES Denise Richards! I don't know who has a more attractive mouth; her or Maria Bartiromo from CNBC. Yes, I DO have too much time on my hands.

Really stupid, but I guess that's what makes it loveable. Funny, funny movie with a beachball alien.
(It was like the graduate school project for John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon. They wrote it, acted in it, directed it, produced it, etc.)

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (okay, the boobies are magnificent, but I think the movie is hilarious)
The Adventures of Ford Fairlaine (Andrew Dice Clay -- the king of bad taste, although he's actually a bit tame in this one)
Basket Case (low budget horror/thriller about a guy's twin brother who's kept in a small wicker basket)
Spice World (completely goofball, corny, cheesy fun . . . with five babes!)
Batman (1966) (just plain awful -- how could anyone take Batman seriously after seeing this -- but the POWs and the BIFFs and the ZZZAPs make it all worthwhile)
Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins . . . (no worse movie in the history of cinema -- but watching Fred Ward learn from a kung fu master is hilarious)
cheers,

Another great movie of this sort is No Retreat No Surrender where the ghost of Bruce Lee helps some kid learn martial arts. The best thing about this movie is that Jean-Claude Van Damme gets his *** kicked by this kid at the end. Awesome!!

Cannabalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, which is what bums turn into when you store toxic radioactive waste in sewer pipes. Man, I love that movie.
Got to back up the vote for Batman (1966), another classic I own.
BTW, I actually think Starship Troopers is a good movie, just severely underrated and unappreciated by others.
Don't forget Plan 9 from Outer Space, a must see movie that is so horribly bad you can't help but laugh.

I don't know why it would be Chuck's ghost? He isn't dead yet - although he should be shot for doing those total gym infomercials.
Anyway, it was definitely Bruce Lee's ghost. Go rent it and enjoy!!

Transporter- The weakest story and worst acting you can imagine. The fight scenes and driving scene are really cool. Jason Statham can make any movie look good.
Napoleon Dynamite - The wife absolutely hates this movie, funniest movie ever. Vote for Pedro!
Galaxy Quest - Hilarious if your a star trek geek
Starship Troopers - also ranks up there!
Shaun of the Dead - Good to see I'm not the only one that though this movie was a riot.

Then there's another one where Chuck's "essence" helps some kid kick butt too; a-la Karate Kid. Fairly lame.
I liked Lebowski too, dude. The first time I watched it, I didn't really like it, but it grew on me and now I think it is sort of a sleeper. Most people I know hate it, but a few are total fanatics about it.
Duece Biggalow-the first one (havnt seen #2)
The second one is not as funny, but I liked the first one. I wouldn't call that a bad movie though. Same with Shaun of the Dead; it was intended to be the way it was.
From Dusk Til Dawn is definitely a bad movie that I liked too :)

I don't own any movies that I think suck. If I thought they sucked I wouldn't own them.
For instance, many of the movies you guys have listed I have (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Reign of Fire, Sean of the Dead, Starship Troopers, Beastmaster, Dark Star, original Batman, etc.) but I don't think they suck. I enjoy them.

Reign of Fire sucked man :)

01-27-2006, 09:01 PM
i hate reign of fire. why? because i was misled by the movie poster. i watched it in theaters because i saw the movie poster (i didnt see the trailer) which had apache helicopterS (yes plural) and dragons. c'mon! choppers vs. dragons! i'd watch that! i was duped.
starship troopers 2. i kinda liked that. i had to watch it again though to get the story ... i was watching the blonde girl the first time around.

Reign of Fire sucked man :)
In your opinion. :p That was my point. I enjoyed it, thought it was a fun dragon movie, good special effects, cool action scenes, and that's why I bought it. Because I liked it, not because I thought it sucked. Which was why I was questioning why someone would own a movie they thought sucked.
j_garcia
01-30-2006, 01:51 PM
I'm with MikeC on that one. There were about 4 minutes of dragons, and a whole lot of bald McConaughey. Christian Bale was OK in it though. I was not impressed with the special effects nor the story. Dragons were the one reason to watch it and I was quite disappointed. But hey, to each their own.

Jack Hammer

Starring Sylvester Stallone, Diane Lane, Armand Assante, and Rob Schneider. The costumes are embarrassingly as bad as the acting, but I still like the movie. Can't quite explain it. It has a gravitational pull or something...

Yeah, I've got that too.
I like a lot of the low bugdet comic book style movies that came out in the early to mid-nineties: The Shadow, The Punisher (Dolph Lundgren), The Demolitionist, Spawn, Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, The Crow, Etc...

That's ok, no hard feelings -- the movies ARE rather cheesy, and as the thread states I love them anyway. I guess that's why Shaun of the Dead made it into this thread (shame on you doomguardian). Oh well, there is no accounting for taste.

Another great scene from "Men at Work" was when Emilio blew in Cindy Crawfords ear and you hear the sound you get when blowing across the top of a coke bottle and you see her hair on the opposite side of her head billow out.

Both my wife and I enjoy The Postman (Kevin Costner) and Last Action Hero (Arnie) - both lambasted films but in our minds good storytelling/fun.

I hated The Postman. Was it actually trying to tell a story? Dances with Mail? Isn't impersonating a letter carrier illegal? :D Hate to say it, but Last Action Hero is a fun movie :) TOTALLY makes fun of everything Hollywood.
