Just received an e-mail from SVS with the shipping cost for the PB12-plus/2, its going to cost me $240 US to Newfoundland, Canada plus a $60 - $80 brokerage fee. This kind of exceeds what i had in mind to pay for a new sub, total being $US 1299 + $US 240 + $US 80 multiplied by exchange on dollar + 15% tax comes to approx. $CDN 2159. I think i will have to maybe reconsider the Axiom EP-500, what do you think of that sub? how much better is the plus/2?

I'd take a serious glance at PSB subsonic10 for that kinda scratch

See.

This is why I don't have an SVS sub. They almost double in price.

If I lived in Canada, I would investigate every Canadian sub made as an alternative. Or, I would postpone the purchase, and plan my next vacation for a visit to SVS HQ in Youngstown, Ohio.

Ya but i am looking for a sub that far exceeds my B&W ASW675 and i don't think HSU will do that, just my opinion, i think their most powerful sub is only 300 watts, correct me if im wrong..

Girard (not Youngstown) is about 3.5 hours from Windsor, and about the same from Niagara Falls. I was just in Windsor, and demo'd a bunch of Paradigm equipment. Nice stuff.

The Servo subs from Paradigm really don't compare to SVS's subs - especially for HT. They sounded wonderful with music, but didn't seem to get that subsonic bass required for great HT the same way SVS subs do.

I visited the SVS factory last summer. There's not much out there period that can beat the PB12-Plus/2 at any price. The Ultra/2 is plain overkill IMO - it sounds very similar to the Plus/2 up to ear bleeding, drywall cracking levels, then goes even further! Just remember these subs are larger than end tables. I've seen a lot of subs, and you'd probably have to spend over $2000 (maybe $3000) to get the bass comparable to the Plus/2 - and how many subs are even that large to handle the low Hz frequencies?

I'd make the drive in a cargo van if you have a weekend and aren't too far away. This sub won't fit in a mini van or car.

You can have my "Un-finished" pros and cons, ok?

Pros:
- Nice finish on top
- Overall good build quality for price
- Front controls
- High SPL playback
- Good FR for price
- Low THD down to 30 - 40Hz.
- Phase switch
Cons:
- THD rise in low end (sub 35Hz or so) = Boomy
- Volume setting = “DOT DOT DOT”
- On the large side (18”D x 14”W x 16”H approx.)
- No continuous phase adjustment knob
- Feet will not sufficiently decouple the subwoofer from carpet
- Not very tactile

This is all you get, and I will be adding to it anyway, so its not the final say.

Hey newf ( I am a Newfie too living in BC)...this is precisely why i went for a Hsu sub as SVS was far too expensive in Canada. From my research, they were comparable and divided down the middle. i had the Psb subsonic 10 and trust me, the Hsu STF 3 kills it.

Actually I think it is 350 watts......and wattage is more about marketing than actual performance.

Think not? Think again. I believe you would be STUNNED by the depth and power of an Hsu VTF-3, much less this bad 500w muthah (watts aren't everything)!! ----->

No comment. :D

The Hsu sub is 350watts, RMS. It has ample power for anything you will throw at it.

Try out the Axiom ep500. It was a product of the year here, and you can get it on a 30 day trial so if it doesn't do the trick for you all you'll be out is $60 or $70 to ship it back. Go to the speaker review section of this site and read what they had to say. Also one of the members here did a pretty good test VS. an SVS and the Axiom did very well. Also Axiom is Canadian and shipping is included in the price.
