If I lived in Canada, I would investigate every Canadian sub made as an alternative. Or, I would postpone the purchase, and plan my next vacation for a visit to SVS HQ in Youngstown, Ohio.
Girard (not Youngstown) is about 3.5 hours from Windsor, and about the same from Niagara Falls. I was just in Windsor, and demo'd a bunch of Paradigm equipment. Nice stuff.
The Servo subs from Paradigm really don't compare to SVS's subs - especially for HT. They sounded wonderful with music, but didn't seem to get that subsonic bass required for great HT the same way SVS subs do.
I visited the SVS factory last summer. There's not much out there
period that can beat the PB12-Plus/2
at any price. The Ultra/2 is plain overkill IMO - it sounds very similar to the Plus/2 up to ear bleeding, drywall cracking levels, then goes even further! Just remember these subs are larger than end tables. I've seen a lot of subs, and you'd probably have to spend over $2000 (maybe $3000) to get the bass comparable to the Plus/2 - and how many subs are even that large to handle the low Hz frequencies?
I'd make the drive in a cargo van if you have a weekend and aren't too far away. This sub won't fit in a mini van or car.
