If the specifications are true, this is one awesome sub for the price.

Well, I suppose I have to ask - I'm about 1 day (or less) away from ordering a SVS PB10. For the sub experts out there, is this thing worth considering since it's at the same price point or should I stick with the PB10?

Someone from avs forum told me that this sub sucks big time. Stick with the SVS PB10.

"The subwoofer is A/V ready and features magnetic shielding, which lets you place the speaker on a TV or video monitor without degrading the picture."

It's only 55 pounds or so on top of the TV:p

Its not a bad sub, especially for the money. I just paid $399CAD for a DPS-12.

Nuzy,

Please do a review after you use the sub. Here is a sub that's more comparable to the PB10, as least in price. The sale price for this Mirage S12 is $399. The price for the PB10 is around $480. What do you guys think? Would you still go with the PB10?

The SVS PB10 will be the first sub I've ever owned, so it will be hard for me to do a very good review since I have nothing to compare it to other than not using a sub at all. I'm not really sure what I should be listening for anyway. I will certainly post my general impressions though.

I don't get it, why are so many people bashing Yamaha subs?

I onced owned a Yamaha sub with dual 8 inch woofers, it was a petty good sub. I have always liked Yamaha subs.

Given a choice, I would go with a 12 inch sub over a 10 inch sub any day of the week.

So you'll take a cheap 12" over a quality 10"? Ya know its not just about the speaker.

Furry,

People bash Yamaha speakers because they don't think a receiver, motorbike/craft, Instrument, etc company can make good speakers.

The Yamaha isn't a cheap subwoofer. You should look at its spec sheet. Its not just a box with a driver.

A 12inch woofer has more extension than a 10inch woofer. It can hit lower and play louder before the distortion numbers creep into audible levels. That's a matter of physics, there is no getting around it. Given the same level of woofer extention, a 12inch woofer can move a LOT more air than a 10inch woofer.

Yamaha has made some really cheap consumer grade speakers. I auditiond them a while ago, and I was not impressed. But the higher grade Yamaha subs are a good value. I owned one (not this particular model) and I liked what I heard.

Yamaha has made some revolutionary speakers in its time. I don't remember the exact model number. But Yamaha made the first speaker using berrylium tweeters. That speaker and its later incarnations were the de facto standard in audio reproduction in many recording studios throughout the world. Even today, after over 20 years, used speakers of that vintage still sell for over $1,000.

And Yamaha has made some revolutionary amp/preamps as well. The mx-10000/cx-10000 combo and its associated components were widely considered to be the best stereo components ever made. And even today, used pieces still routinely sell for over $8,000, that is if you are lucky enough to find one for sale.

The yamaha speakers your talking about are the NS-1000's.

You guys should look at the driver and amp on the yamaha site. This driver has a very long throw, so it can move some serious air.

Just because a 12 can move MORE air does not mean it will be louder. Well it play deeper yes, but to a certain extent. I know in car audio i have seen 8inch subs get alot louder than 12in subs. Giving the right enclosure and power. And i dont mean 3x more power or anything crazy. Check out a w7 8in.
