I can't stand Bose, mainly because of their rediculously high prices for inferior products, probably like most everyone on this forum.

Anyway, I have always wondered what exactly is inside those little cubes, the "bass module" and the wave radios. I have Googled to no end and all I can find are articles such as THIS with no pictures.

Bose: The Fram oil filter of speakers! Great marketing, over-priced, crappy construction and performance/price ratio.

LOL, Going through that thread just reminded me of a funny bose story. When I was about 15 and browsing through a stereo shop in Portland OR, I was looking at a pair of 901's in a demo room, suspended from chains about 4 ft above the floor. The salesmen proceeded to tell me about them. Here are some of the facts he spouted. He said, the things can handle unlimited power, you can plug them in the wall and hear the 60hz cycle. Also, when you really get them up loud they start swinging in the chains because of the huge amount of air coming from the ports. :D

Years later while I was working in a speaker shop building custom stuff and doing repairs, I often wondered why I replaced so many blown 901 drivers.

What's the point?

I don't see what this thread is meant to achieve?

Why spend time understanding something you can't stand? Just let it be and move on.

Wearing an yellow glass you can't see things in their natural color. When you ask a question regarding something being biased against, you can't reason. So move on.

Every industry has Bose equivalents. In every walk of life you come across things over-rated, underpowered or whatever. If you consider yourself wise to rate something as crap, then go on and be wiser, don't buy it. Don't advise buying it. It doesn't get any simpler. Continuous *****ing of something doesn't make others think you are super knowledgeable in the area. And I do not think gossiping is fashionable among men. Gossiping and *****ing is women's game.

Its time for you to calm down. If you wanna swear, go to another forum, that isn't welcome here.

Also, who are you? You have no right to boss anyone around, especially with your little rep.

Hi Ho

Hi Ho

This is not meant to be a Bose bashing thread. If you do a search on my name, you will see that I do not participate in Bose bashing. I also do not claim to know everything. I most certainly do not.

I do not like Bose, mainly because of their deceptive marketing and extreme pricing. Their "top of the line" $4,000 system can't be worth more than $400. I'll bet most people on this forum feel the same way. You are in the minority.

I don't like Monster or other "high end" cable vendors for similar reasons, extreme prices and very deceptive marketing. I don't like Sony either, for a variety of reasons. There are many companies I do not like.

This thread is not meant to be a bash fest. There are enough of those on audiophile forums all over the net.

Do I care if the average Joe goes out and buys himself a Bose system? Well... yes. Why? Because I don't like to see unsuspecting people blowing their money on stuff that they think is top notch. I feel the same way about Monster. Sony is one company which I really cannot stand. I try as hard as I can to persuade people not to buy Sony products. The recent root kit debacle was the last straw with me. I can't change everyone's mind and I don't mean to. I can try, however, to keep people from getting ripped off and pumping more money into the marketing machines that are Bose, Monster, and quite a few other companies.

I learned long ago that name recognition means nothing. I have had enough poor quality products (power tools, lawn equipment, electronics, you name it) from companies that used to have a good reputation and made good stuff. So many of them have gone by the wayside while their name recognition keeps their sales going strong. Bose has never made stand-out products and yet their name is probably the most recognized name in audio.

I truly am curious about what is actually inside the Bose systems. I don't have thousands of dollars to buy one and rip it apart.

Sheep, thanks for the response. That picture of the plexiglass model is the one picture I did find on Google. I should have mentioned it. I guess no one has had the will to rip apart a $300 system that cost $3,000? :)

By the way, Jeffsg4mac, that picture is hilarious, yet surprisingly accurate! :D

Sheep, whoever you are I do not need to know. But I have an advice for you, learn to READ. Firstly, I didn't respond you or quote you. So, you may kindly get lost with your attitude. Secondly, I didn't swear. If this site prevents posting words like ******** and "***" them, I can't help. I am new around these parts and will learn what the site converts into "***" only with time.

And where did you see I was bossing anyone? If you have any manners, you would know how to talk to people. All I am saying is -- "This forum (this subforum named Loudspeakers & Subwoofers) is meant for posting questions related to what it is related to. The people who have something against someone or some brand can happily go and vent their steam in the "The Steam Vent" subforum. Do you read me? I am surprised you have been here for so long and still do not know what type of questions belong where and how to comment. And more over you do not even read properly. Grow up man.

Edit: Grow Up man. There are other ways to get your point across than swearing. Please do not try to get around the censor. It does not look good on your behalf. ...Admin

To Hi Ho

Hi Ho,

I am glad you didn't mean it to be a bash fest.

Now to set the records straight, I am not a huge Bose fan, nor do I recommend people buying Bose system. What I do believe is - Bose is good for some poeple. I would hate to term them as AudioFools as someone on this site earlier did. Its just that not everyone in the world knows about TDH, SPL, Cross-over, Bi-Amping, Bi-wiring and stuff. Also, a lot of poeple buy costly stuff just because they can have the sense of satisfaction that they are using a $5000 system. I bet you and I can do better with lot less money, but 99 percent of those who own those $5000 systems wont be able to. They won't in fact be able to tell if you replace that $5000 system with a $2000 system and cover it. And a lot of them, in fact have no time to think about that $5000. Probably, for them $5000 is what $50 if you and I. So they don't give a s*** to that money. And trust me, such people are big in number. There is a huge market for systems that make people "feel good about their investment" in stead of "sounding great". Do you see the point?

My point is - Bose systems are targetted at a particular group of people. And the people Bose targets, it aboslutely fine with them. So why whine about that? We are all used to criticising and finding fault in successful things. How many of us give credit to the hard work that was put behind it? I wouldn't hate Bose for making money. They are making money because they can. If anyone else has the ability, can do so too. You can do too. I can do too. if I or you have the ability. Let us give the credit to Bose that they have created a place for themselves in the market, despite not manufacturing technically advanced or great sounding products, still selling like hot cake and being a leader in the market.

Jeff, If that was the innards of Bose ... I'd buy one right away! (provided there is no smell) why? i can't believe that glop can produce sound! that's a marvel in itself :)

once upon a time (when I had no money) it was my dream to buy a bose system ... good thing I didn't have any money then.

If the forum auto bleeps the swears, then don't say them to begin with.

The fact is, he wasn't bashing bose (which you have know found out). So, this is a valid topic and can stay in this forum. He wants to see the design of bose loudspeaker enclosures.

I'll have you know that I am usually the one reporting improper threads, mainly because I see them first.

I don't care if the post wasn't addressed to me, if I see something wrong that needs to be corrected, I will solve the problem. Its a public forum. Next time try a PM.

Also, look at your post to Hi Ho. Does it sound like you used the best tone to talk to someone? You could have been much more polite.

As for personal attacks, I'm not going to stoop that low. You can continue with them if you like, but you will probably be banned like the rest of them.

I found an extra dual-cube speaker at work. I'm going to bring it home and cut it up, and I will take some pics as I go. Pictures will be posted following the operation!

To Sheep: You misquote because you have a problem reading

Sheep,

Where did you see I wrote "I have an adivce for you"? I can’t see where you got that from. Can you please show me? Please point it out, if you want to be taken seriously at all. Unless you do that, it would mean you can’t read. Oh yes, another sincere advice for you. Learn to read. If you have a problem reading, you will obviously have a problem understanding. And if you have a problem understanding, you will continue to misquote people and create problems for everyone.

Oh, so this is a public forum and you have the rights to correct everyone? I am glad you take that responsibility. Now to begin with, can you justify how the comments posted above are related to “design of a speaker”? Why don’t you go and correct people who think its cool to say, “I hate Bose (I am an audiophile)”, instead of taking a dig at a new member who refuses to accept your crap. People will admire you and consider you knowledgeable if you post something really intriguing and technical content. Piling up threads full of sarcasm and hatred is not really a great form of technical discussion. I do not see what value such threads add in a forum where people come to learn and seek serious advice.

Oh, and please, stop threatening me. You started personal remarking. I do not even know anyone here enough to have a reason to indulge in personal attacks. I see that you are being arrogant because you may have been successful in getting people banned. But that only may happen if you have close friends among moderators here, who would ignore your big mistakes and punish others for small ones. Anyone who reads this thread without being a “Bose hater” would see immediately how you have been forcing an unpleasant discussion here. Moderators should look at the way you misread and misquote people and cause unproductive discussions.

PS: Talking of grammar.

I saw where you wrote "I have an advice for you" as well. However, it doesn't matter because proper grammar has nothing to do with the sub-par quality of Bose products. Submitting personal attacks and pointing out flaws in the way a person presents their argument just shows the weakness of yours. I am not just directing this at you because I have noticed both of you are guilty of the aforementioned fallacy.

I vote that both of you stop talking to each other and stop worrying about the other person's grammar and spelling skills. If you would like to continue your pointless banter, then it would be beneficial for all if you take it to PM's and keep the rest of us out of it. You are just flooding this thread with posts that are going to get you absolutely nowhere. What do you guys expect to accomplish by this? Just go your different ways and move on.

As for the topic, I will get that speaker home ASAP and have pictures up when I get the time, so expect a week or so to pass before I get them up.

I actually saw a cross section of one of the cube speakers. It was a very nice display, but the unit itself wasn't.

The driver looks very weird. Sorta like a subwoofer driver, but tiny.
