In my other thread i mentioned that my roommate is looking to buy a big screen & we ran into this tv @ circuit city & liked how it looked but we both wondered how/where the center channel would be placed...

prolly should've mentioned that the tv sits in front of windows, so that isn't possible

I guess you could build a stand for it so that it sits just under the tv.

I wouldn't get that TV.

I mean, yeah, it looks cool, but it is really designed to either have a center channel mounted on top of it, or it needs you to use the internal speakers.

You would be better with a rear projection DLP/LCD with no base at all, then put it on a stand that is designed to hold a center channel right on it.

Here is a top shelf:

And a potential stand for a TV without an integrated floor stand:

(that one looks cool but check weight/size limitations first!)

Well, as I said, it is designed to have you put the center channel on top of it and the first link there is a mount to allow you to put the center channel there.

With the windows above it, you are in a situation where you can't do that, so you can't do what the manufacturer intended.

That's it - now you know. :)

Could you rig up TWO center channels so you could space them equal distants from the center post? I saw that TV at my local Magnolia and wondered the same exact thing!

i saw that tv myself (56" of DLP tv!)
but since I didn't know where to put the receivers, players, AND the center. I didn't even consider it.

I say use a speaker stand up front

they make a stand that wraps around the "column" of the tv, so you could put some of your gear there, it had 4 shelves i believe. But regardless, it still leaves center placement up in the air

Personally when I was shopping for my TV ( I got a 42" samsung DLP) I thought those Samsung's on the stand looked kinda cheap.

I don't get people sometimes.

I mean, that DLP is designed as a stand-alone piece. No surround system allowed, no components right at the display. Even for them to add a spot for your DVD player and cable box seems to diminish the design of that display.

With 10 billion current choices in rear projection, why not just look elsewhere? Don't wonder! It wasn't designed for a high end setup, it was designed to plug a cable from your wall into the TV and have a nice day. High WAF, low versatility. Heck, if they charged five times as much it probably would get the Bose logo.

There is a bracket by omni mount, the model number is CCH1B and it latches on the top and back of the set and makes a little shelf for center channel speakers. It only costs about 35$ US and works great. Circuit City has it. Type that model number at Circuitcity.com. And there are many reasons to stick with that TV over their table top models. The chip is a lot better first of all. Its and HD2+, not a new HD3 which uses a new technique that to blend edges so it seems smoother, but its not. It actually reduces sharpness and brightness and causes a delay if you play video games. Stick with the pedestal, it is, at least in my opinion, the best DLP you can get, other than the design. But you can still work with the design
