this is a blatant rip off of a thread in AVS but what the heck.:p Tell everyone what you watched last night and what you thought of it.
I ended up watching Alexander after it sat around for about a week(BB online rental). I had heard some negative reviews on it so I wasn't expecting much and I tried to keep an open mind.....it didn't help. I thought the movie was terrible, the last major fight sequence with the elephants was well done but Colin Farrell IMO, just doesn't do it for me as a lead actor.

It had potential, but at least an hour of its drunken cinematography could have been left on the cutting room floor...:(
I watched The Island today (see my other thread re: soundtrack issues) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It borrows a lot from THX 1138 and Minority Report, but I it pulls it off quite nicely for an action movie. Its packed with eye candy (*cough*)Scarlett Johansson(*cough*) and the special effects are nice too ;)

I watched the Fellowship of the Ring last night.
And it is, in my opinion, one of the greatest movies of all time, but I'm sure you already know that.

Crash was a terrific movie. As soon as it was over, I wanted to watch it again. One of those stories that was just made for a discussion between a small group of friends afterward.
cheers,

I watched Death and the Maiden on IFC last night. It was pretty good. Except for Sigourney Weaver who is clearly not in the same league as Ben Kingsley in this picture. But it was probably the best IFC film I've watched since The Red Violin (There really is alot of crap on IFC).

Tomorrow I'm going to see Kong, I will post my findings in in my thread titled "Who likes Kong?"

I am at the moment in the middle of watching Charlie and the Choco Fact.
I also will be watching The Island right after that.
So far C.a.t.C.F. is so-so.
I did just watch The Order last night, it was not that bad. Just a little to 'comic booky' right at the end.
Especially his last line where he say "I am the sin eater"

I watched "The Island" last nite. I thought it was OK. I would rate it a weak three out of five. To me, the story was pretty lame. It was slow at first but then really picked up in the middle. The action scenes in the middle were worth watching it for. Special effects were really good and I thought the sound was good, also.
It was almost like a commercial for lots of brands...Chrysler cars, MSN, and many others. No more info as I would have to post spoilers. Hope I have not already!

I watched War of the Worlds and didn't understand why everyone hated it. I thought it was a decent retelling. At least the things were tripods like Wells wrote. I did want Cruise, his son, and his whiny daughter to all die because they annoyed me.

Its just so pointless. Aliens arrive, aliens kill people, aliens die. Theres no moral to the story, no real plot, The film is just one big special effect. If the characters didn't even have names it wouldn't have affected the story at all!
Personal gripes: Tome Cruise cargo crane operator, shown to be a working-class hlub, despite the fact cargo crane operators start at $80,000/year. Also the engine in his living room is a "350 V8". The 350 is a Chevy product, and he owns a Ford.

How's the saying go, "It was a good popcorn flick", but I agree they could have done away with the 2 kids and maybe replaced them with a couple of dogs.

And that's why you DIDN'T like it? Those are the reasons I DID like it. ;)
And what moral were you looking for? Was there a moral to the book? Was there a moral to the 1950s version?
As far as the plot wasn't that the fact that despite how advanced and powerful we think we are the ones who saved the planet were the smallest of the small?

I put in my old copy of Christmas vacation and laughed at Clark Griswold, cousin Eddie and his whole crazy family. I still love that movie, and watch it every year round this time , along with scrooged, A Christmas Story, Elf, and new favorite Bad Santa
comments on above. I enjoyed War of the Worlds, not an academy award winner for sure, but a fun watch.
I thought 40 year old virgin was hsyterical, saw it 2ce at cinema and bought it on DVD

I watched Boxing Helena at the urging of the wife. Now I'm wishing I'd spent the time scraping hard water residue off of the shower door. That would have been more entertaining.
Or maybe playing with a set of keys. Ooh...shiny.

I watched Bram Stoker's Dracula last night. Excellent movie. True, Winona and Keanu weren't robbed when they didn't win the Oscar that year. But I love the imagery and sound editing in that film.

Watched Star Wars III. OK. OK. Explain to me how Obi Wan can be such a young man when Luke is born but then in Ep. 4 he's this decrepid old man? Isn't that only like 16 or so years later?
Also, how come R2 doesn't have all these cool rockets and jumping moves in Ep. 4 that he has here? He's barely able to stand up in Ep. 4. I know, I know. One of the hazards of going back in story time while advancing forward in the art of CGI. That was one of my gripes with "Enterprise."
You'd think General Greivious would have protected his internal organs better than to just have a couple sheets of metal in front of them.
How come the dark side has cool lightning effects and the good side's powers are essentially invisible? like a puff of air?
How come in Ep.4 R2 claims that Obi Wan is his master, but it seems he was always hanging out with Aniken? And how come Obi Wan in Ep.4 says, "I don't recall having a droid"? Was he on the verge of senility?

if I had to guess luke was in his young 20s like 20-23, that would make Obi Wan 55ish or so.
Perhaps R2 had no real use for them.
Darkside has powerful lightning attacks, Lightside if train can block thos attack without a lightsaber.
Grievious, who know I think he was more a cyborg os some type.
Obi being senile, wait till you hit 55+

And I thought Luke was a teenager. I thought, from reading the book version way back when that he wanted to join the forces with his friend but his uncle forbid it. If he was in his 20s he wouldn't have been under his uncle's rule and could have left. So that would have made Obi Wan in his late 40s, very early 50s. Not Alec Guinness old.
Cripes. I hope I won't be senile in 6 more years! That's still young nowadays.
