Can you guys/gals recommend a good CD player that's reasonably priced (max $150-200)? I intend to have this in addition to my DVD player to listen to music in a multi-zone system. Thanks.

Why don't you use your dvd player?

Any cheap cd/dvd player with a digital out should sound the same...save some cash :)

The only tip I have is to be careful of the specifications and features. The S/N rating may only apply to the digital outputs and not the analogue ones.
I've read that the best DAC's have a 1-bit design, but this is probably out of date.

You may want to read this about 1 bit dacs. Not very good:

You already have one, your DVD player. There really is no reason for a separate CD player when you have the DVD player. Spend the money on something else for the system.

Not true at all. Dvd players usually suck at scanning back and forth through tracks...slow and/or awkward. It is why I just got one of these:

If one plays a lot of CDs, I recommend a seperate player. Also, if you have a movie in stasis, you don't have to remove the DVD to play a CD. Is all of this really necessary? No...but for me, all of the above made it worth spending less than $300 for a very nice CD changer.

Guys, txhorns refers to multi-zone, so maybe he wants to listen to a stereo cd in zone 2 while a dvd is playing in zone 1?
I have also heard very divided opinions on using the dvd player for cds vs a dedicated cd player.
My dvd player (LG dvd/hdd recorder) doesnt 'like' many of the cds I try to play, and it takes ages to load/recognise them if it does decide to play them, so like txhorns I am looking for a cd player (or another (better quality) dvd player), but for different reasons.
Also, just to throw a spanner in the works, should I wait for blu-ray?? :/
