OK, I did a search and couldn't see that anyone talked about this either as a theatrical release or as the new DVD release.
I just watched it last night.
I do recall this movie being panned critically and don't believe it did well at the box office.
Maybe because of that, my expectations were lowered when I went into this, but really, this wasn't a bad movie. I enjoyed it. Thought it had some really good special effects. Not sure on the sound, watched it on a TV.
But other than the usual story changes that seem mandatory these days when taking a classic comicbook origin story and putting it on film, this one held up as fairly true to the comics.
The make-up for The Thing was pretty top notch.
And well, Jessical Alba in just her bra and panties. How can you not love that? :D
I'd say as far as comicbook adaptations go, this probably wasn't as good as X-Men or Spiderman but was still way better than The Hulk and Daredevil.

The only thing that movie had going for it was Jessica Alba and she still had too much clothing on:mad:
IMHO- The thing looked like a styrofoam cooler with legs.

Yeah I saw this movie on preview night (hook up to THX cert. theater :) )
I though it was the worst movie I have seen this year. Atleast WOTW had bass going for it.... this has? Jessica Alba? The worst female actress in the world?
Sorry, all the hot nudity in the world won't make me see her act again...

Makes me wonder if it's that expectations thing.
Just to get a perspective, what are your thoughts on the other Marvel comic book adaptations?

I bought it because it has a DTS track... But it wasn't all that great, so whatever, I'll get over it! :D

She says she won't do nude scenes because her father would kill her. Obviously she doesn't realize what is keeping her career afloat. Maybe she is under the delusion that people enjoy her acting. It's just a matter of time before the top comes off, otherwise Hollywood will kick her to the curb!!
Look at Halle Berry. She takes her top off in Swordfish and not long after she bares all in that horribly boring movie she won a best actress award for. I think somebody told her that if she got naked she would win the award. I say kudos to that person. I won't be happy until someone offers Jessica the same deal!! :D

I have two opinions on this thread, the first one is that FF4 didn't just suck, it patheti-sucked, the second is that Jessica Alba is so damn hot that it is unreal. I'm even going to rent that piece of crap diving movie she's in with Paul Walker (Wanker)? just to catch her in a two-piece. Is that sad? Maybe. Do I care? Not a lick.

I thought the movie was far better than everyone made it out to be. The critics had me thinking it was the second coming of DareDevil :P
My only problems with the movie have to do with Dr.Doom. metal skin? lightning bolts? WTF?! The Venture Brother's Baron Underbite was a better Dr.Doom than this movies..... (At least they mentioned Latveria).
I give the movie 3 outa 5 (an Average movie. Dr.Doom brings it down from Good)
Just to get a perspective, what are your thoughts on the other Marvel comic book adaptations?
The Punisher (2004): Good. The "feel" of the Punisher is kept intact even if the film strays from the humor that the Garth Ennis written series had (noteably lacking: The Russian didn't talk).
The Hulk: Hulk Smash! The film was really dull. And Hulk-dogs?! Puh-lease. Bad movie
DareDevil: Another awful film. Terrible, terrible editing, and a ho-hum overall feel to it.
Spiderman & Spiderman 2: Awesome
Elektra: Probably as bad as Daredevil. Really had nothing to do with the comicbook
The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The studio should have known that an X-Men type franchise centered on 19th century literary figures was doomed to become a special-kind of movie loved only by creepy kids who read 19th century literature. Plus any valuable story that could have been was squished-out by the short running time. It would have been a much better miniseries on TV.
The Punisher (1993): Egads....... why is that guy speaking in rhyme?
Man-Thing: Horrible
Blade: Awesome.
Blade 2: Ho-hum
Blade 3: Stupid
X-Men: Very Good
X-Men 2: Awesome
Marvel's upcoming films I'm looking forward too:
Deathlok, The Black Widow, Spider-Man3, Fantastic Four 2, Ghost Rider, Iron Man
Marvel's upcoming films I'm NOT looking forward too:
Ant-Man

Are you serious about Ant Man? Please say it aint so. I'm not too crazy about the Black Widow idea either, but Ant Man. My power is to get very small, oooh, spooky, please, stop it ant man, and you're 50 times stronger than an average man, wow, too bad you suck Adam, otherwise that would be pretty cool. I agree with most of what you're saying R&R Ninja, but I'd say the Hulk was even worse than daredevil, or at least equally as bad, either way no winner there. I did think FF4 sucked the big one though. Deathlok and ghost rider could be amazing, but I'll reserve judgement, the way movies are coming out Deathlok will probably look like Robocop 3 and ghost rider will be like a bad episode of Supernatural.

I knew Fantastic Four was going to suck when I read the cast list. That was a movie made by studio accounts and actuaries.
Fantastic Four Recipe:
1. Appeal to the lowest common demoninator
2. Liberally mix in the worst Simpson/ Bruckheimer stereotypes
3. Throw in a montage
4. Add in some lame metal
5. Bake for 90 minutes
6. Remove from the oven, cool; eat.
7. Die from malnutrition

[FF] I give the movie 3 outa 5 (an Average movie. Dr.Doom brings it down from Good) - totally agree
Puh-lease. Bad movie - thought was a bit better than this. First view was terribly disappointed but since it has grown on me. Would have benifited from a lack of Nick Nolte
DareDevil: Another awful film. Terrible, terrible editing, and a ho-hum overall feel to it. - yep
Spiderman & Spiderman 2: Awesome - S2 was awesomer
Elektra: Probably as bad as Daredevil. Really had nothing to do with the comicbook - I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch that again
- meh
The Punisher (1993): Egads....... why is that guy speaking in rhyme? - really, no skull shirt? How did they think this wasn't going to flop?
Man-Thing: Horrible - didn't see
Blade: Awesome. - yep
Blade 2: Ho-hum - yep, but it's grown on me
Blade 3: Stupid - craptacular
X-Men: Very Good - yep
X-Men 2: Awesome - yep
I mostly agree with you...see my edits

I'm in the camp that goes to movies for basic entertainment and F4 definitely did that for me. The Hulk was so slow and boring that I actually fell asleep during it. Worthless story, worthless film.
F4 was more of an intro movie the way that X-Men and Spiderman (1st movies) were intros. Hi, these are the players, and this is how they got their powers, and this is their situation. Nothing to crazy going on there and the F4 have never had the inner turmoils to deal with the way that X-Men or Spidey has. Spiderman for sure as he has had a lot of 'heart' in all the comics and they have maintained that on film.
F4? They are superheroes, they fight bad guys, they are a team, they have some internal drama.
Oooohhh - Fire, rock, hot chick... Good effects, some explosions...
This is about as average as a film can be. Far better than the poor reviews. To call it LESS than average is wrong. Because Spiderman and X-Men are not 'average' - They are far superior films. If your expectation is A+ work, and you see C level work, you will be disappointed. If you expect C level work, and you see C level work, you will come away happy.
Yeah, I'm easy to please. ;)

I totally agree with the above said. I watched this for the first time. I was expecting C work and I got C+ work. I thought it had an alright soundtrack. Good CG. It was what it was, a setup for the next movie and I was entertained.

Who are they? And why do they have the rights?
They made the godawful 1991 Captain America movie.
IMDB now has a Captain America movie dated for release in 2007. But no official word on which studio, director, writer, or actros will be in it. Since nothing has been confirmed, its safe to say 2007 may be a little optomistic (just look at the history of Superman. The finest remake 1997 was supposed to offer).

Hey don't diss montages. What about team america? It had a kick a$$ montage.
They even had a song....
Hey!
The hour is approaching to give it your best
And you have got to reach your prime!
That's when you need to put yourself to the test
And show us the passage of time
We're gonna need a montage (Montage)
Oooo, it takes a montage (Montage)
And just show a lot of things happenin' at once.
Remind everyone of what's goin' on. (What's goin' on?)
And with every shot, show a little improvement
To show it will not take too long
That's called a montage (Montage)
Dude, we want a montage (Montage)
In anything, if you want to go
From just a beginner to a pro
You'll need a montage (Montage)
Even Rockey had a montage (Montage)
Always fade out in a montage (Montage)
If you fade out it seems like more time has passed in a montage (Montage)
hahaha I'm priceless :)
