New speaker technology ? Has anybody heard of these?

Greetings to all,

I'm curious about a new floor speaker called the Infinity Cascade 9. I think these are available only in Australia for sale, but someone said Crutchfield is selling them here for 1000.00 ea. I was told that Infinity is still working out the bugs on these before they are available for sale to the public.
I don't know if this is new speaker technology or not, but this is what the description says: " The model 9 includes dual MRS flat-panel transducer mid-bass drivers complemented by a 1 inch CMMD tweeter with CAI waveguide.

Saw those last week. I don't think they are a new technology, just a new implementation of an existing one. The sub is the one that has me curious though. Never seen a flat panel used for low frequencies.

The sub is a bad idea. Sounds like a waste, that will cost truck loads.

I think 32hz sounds like "not quite cutting it" for H/T applications. I have never liked the sound of transducers because of my musical taste. They sound great for classical, but as far as anything else goes I don't care for them. And like Sheep said the sub sounds like a bunch of malarkey.

I think 32hz sounds like "not quite cutting it" for H/T applications. .....but a sub that will deliver 32 cycles "IS" cutting it, Krzywica, that's 3 hz below 35 where the average of listeners can't detect pitch....those three decibels, on the average of listeners, comes across as realism concussion and a pitch is not heard....I'm going to say that's low, haha....the issue, is whether or not your sub is actually putting out 32 hz, and do you have to stick your head inside to feel it?....beware the 3 db down point rating of a low speaker which is where it naturally rolls off....by law, a manufacturer's claim can go 3 db below that....by the way, ain't none of us gettin' anywhere near 35 hz out of our main's regiment without our heads being inside the enclosure, don't kid yourselves....go for clean....mix in ohmage voices from the rears....I'd bet my entire dog, not a one of you guys tried that with your rear speakers in series.....

Perhaps you don't like flat transducers. If you don't like transducers, you must not like speakers at all :eek:

I have to agree though. As cool as that idea is, the specs just don't cut it (at least on the subwoofer). For about the same price, you can get the SVS setup that will include the PB-10 and a full compliment of quality bookshelves.


On a side note, Polish Power! Only 50% here though (and sadly, I do not speak the language :o )

If I was going to go flat transducers, I'd go ML, or Maggie. Leave it to the experts.

I like the infinity Beta's and the CSW 10

If I was going Infinity, thats what I'd get, not these.

From what I'm reading, I'm not going to get much bass out of these as my mains am I? I currently own a pair of JBL E 100'S and I was considering upgrading to these baby's if it were worth it.

Hahaha, that is great. :D

Also, those Cascade models look pretty fishy to me. That's a lot of money for something like that. There isn't much bass either. It almost looks like they're boosting the price just because it's something new they're hyping. I listened to the JBL E80s, the 6.5" woofer model, and it sounded muddy. The speakers around that price I've found to be the best were the Infinity Betas. You should check them out.

the cheapest electrostatic ML are the aeon i's (at least 2000bucks-3000bucks)

this is pretty cheap for these flat things. but for me, if woofers/driver's can do the job ... why go flat unless its for aesthetic purposes
