SA-CD set-up: low volume?

I have recently become the proud owner of a SA-CD playback machine (the Philips DVP720SA) and paired it to my receiver (NAD 753).

The thing works great and I am quite please with the sound quality. One thing bothers me though and I was wondering whether any of you learned gentlemen could offer any advice; whenever I play back discs through the receiver I have to really crank up the volume. Normally I would use the receiver at -50 to -40 dB but with the player I need to boost it to -15 to -10 dB. At this volume I start to hear static noise again during the quiet pieces.

The manual for the DVD player doesn't make any mention of this nor the manual of the receiver. Any suggestions or explanations? Anybody else with the same experience?

Are you using the 5.1 channle outputs/inputs???
I know when hook my iPOD up using a head phone to RCA adapter, I have to really crank it up because the iPOD has a very low output level, therefore the amp has to amplifiy even more...

In my system, all discrete multichannel material seems to have a lower input volume then analog, 2-ch, and matrixed surround. In my example this means SACD, DVD-A, and HD television channels. I'm not bothered by the CDs and DVDs being this way, but it is bothersome on HD broadcasts b/c I always forget to lower the volume before I change the channel to a non-HD channel.

Have you adjusted the levels for multichannel audio in the player or reciever's setup menus? The multichannel analog inputs usually have a separate config from your "normal" system settings.
