where do i go to learn more about controlling (automating) things with maybe a Pronto, or Harmony remote?

i would like to be about lo control lighting, mini blinds, and of course a/v componets...

http://www.remotecentral.com is a good starting place for learning about al sorts of remote controls. They also have forums you can read and/or post in just like this one.

Note that there are products specifically for controlling lights and blinds (X10, Lutron, etc) that can be used with learning remotes. If you have any specific questions, there are many here that can answer them.
