If I wanted to add a center channel, but not surrounds to my system for listening to multi-channel would that mess up the imaging? Where would the info sent to the other channels go? I've never heard of anybody doing this, but I thought it might improve my sound and I don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with setting up surrounds at this time.

Actualy you have to do the reverse, the rears are essential for multi channel but not the centers which can be sent to the mains.

I'm with Yamahaluver. *Unless you have an extremely wide room, and have people sit waay off-axis, you don't need a center channel. *Last week, I cut out my center channel, *redistributing the center output to the mains. *I like the result, and so far, through two movies and a multi-channel SACD have not reconnected the center speaker.
If you want to check out multichannel sound, you'll have to deal with surround speakers.
