just got yamaha 5860 for my b-day last night

today i'm trying to find speakers

could you recommend floorstanding speakers for $300-$500 (pair) that can be found at bestbuy or circuitcity

or

if there is a home theater system within the price range that would be as good as floorstanding speakers, please let me know

usage: mainly movies/music

I have somewhat the same receiver, RX-V650, went with Paradigm Monitor #7's for just a few dollars more than what our friends at Best Buy/Circuit City can provide. Look up your nearest Paradigm dealer, you will not regret over the long run. If you want to run surround, they can assist in the Paradigm centers, which I just acquired for my Yamaha, came from Bose, wow what a difffernce going to the Paradigm family of speakers.

just came back from cc and bb ---

going to bb was a waste of time -- complete mess everywhere could test almost any system

cc was much better -- very informative rep adviced me to go with Polk but i couldn't make up my mind.

If you have one near you I would check at ultimate electronics. They are very helpful and will give you good information about the speakers they carry. They are overpriced, but I just go there to try their stuff out and then I buy it online for much cheaper. I would also recommend looking at BIC speakers they cannot be out done for the price they are at. The BIC speakers can compete with most $1000 speaker sets. Have fun.

Get a set of these. They were a $1000 each, now on clearance. Shipping is pricey, but when you see the asking price, it's not so bad. 88lbs shipped! ;)
