Hi there! Thoroughly enjoy these forums! I'd like to volunteer my efforts to add to them here, and one way would be to post 'known' manufacturer's recalls.

I get them emailed to me for RPTV's and have access to them for both Plasma and LCD's too. I would be glad to volunteer to post them as they come in if you have a place where I can post them.

I didn't know whom to address this to so figure maybe it'll be seen here.

Let me know if this is a good idea, and where I would post the recalls, and I'll "post away"...

You can usually find these in updated versions of service manuals that are avaliable to repair shops.

You can get them on eBay as well. They contain the A/V equivalent of automotive TBS's (Technical Service Bulletins).

I know that, what I was saying was I was volunteering to post them here but wanted the forum administrators to tell me where they should go.

Honestly its not a bad idea. The place that it would fit the most is in a Sticky in the are Displays and Projectors. The one(s) to PM about it would be Clint or Gene. Since they are the Admins. The mods may or may not have control over this, but I doubt it. However some of the mods are decent guys, and may bring the suggestion up to the admins.

Like I said, its not a bad idea, and I see nothing wrong for a dealer to let us know, when there are recalls. As this will let us know which manufactures are on top of this, and are listening to the consumer.

I think it's a great idea. robinh, If you're willing to take the time for it, and Gene or Clint would help out by adding a sticky or a separate place for them all together, I say go for it.

Not that many, I think I have maybe a dozen from the last year or so. I keep them just as reference but would be glad to post them somewhere. I get recall notices on audio/video equipment and mobile phones.

Here's an example of an Aiwa home-audio minisystem recall:

RECALL - Aiwa home-audio minisystems

ISSUE - Could catch fire.

Products: 200,000 audio systems sold 3/98-7/98 in stores for about $200 to $250. Model number CX-NA303U is on back of unit. Silver-colored system is 10 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 13 inches long. It includes radio, CD player, tape player, and speakers with black cloth grille. (Units with red and white "A" on back aren't being recalled.)

What to do: Call 888 619-9353 for information on getting free repairs and complimentary stereo headphones.

I know mobile phones aren't a subject matter here (at least not that I've seen), but here's a recent example of one of those recalls:

RECALL - Batteries in LG cell phones sold through Verizon Wireless

PROBLEM: Batteries may be counterfeit. If so and they are overcharged, the battery could overheat and pose fire and skin-burn hazards.

Models: 50,000 batteries sold 8/02 to 11/03 separately for $40 to $60 or from 4/01 to 12/02 with LG TM-510 cell phones. Verizon has received 18 reports of incidents involving counterfeit batteries, some of which resulted in injuries and property damage. Recalled batteries bear manufacturer/date code of “AEMLLL 02220,” “AEMMHH 02220,” “AEMLLL 02X25H,” or “AEMMHH 02725.” The model number of phone appears on back side of device beneath battery. Phones came in silver or black, and may have Verizon name on front. Hazard exists because counterfeit batteries may lack safety device in circuitry to prevent overcharging.

What to do: Stop charging battery and call Verizon Wireless at 888-351-2121 or go to www.vzwshop.com/lgbattery for free replacement battery.

I think I'm just going to maintain my Recalls and Notices page - I took a big feed from CPSC today and had a lot to update. I've moved it to a somewhat "prettier" format than the plain text feed that I had before.

If we can post someplace a link to my site, it'll be easier for me to maintain it than to maintain two places at once. Not sure if you want me to start a new thread to post this under or what, but I'm in the midst of updating it so some of it is still under construction and it's growing at a pretty rapid pace. Right now I'm tracking recalls for several different types of equipment, when it started out as tracking for just electronic test equipment.

Great site.... I think you are doing it quite well.
I would say, just post in steam vent whenever a new audio or video complaint comes up.
But then again, I saw the thing with Sony Slim Playstations, and a lot of people talk about gaming machines here, also the digital cameras. Aw heck, I would just say post over at steam vent. Hopefully Gene or Clint will give you a sticky that you can post at...

thanks, it's still under construction and will be up and running soon. I wanted a clearing house for recalls and since there was no one place to get them, I ended up hitting several places and figured, what the heck, might as well compile them myself...
