Router Media Center?

I've seen a few people do this before but I am not very clear at how it works. I think what they do is,transfer movies from PC through ROUTER to EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE and then it plays on the TV?

Can someone explain how to set this up and what is needed. thanks

yes exactly, and like still have it be far away as in two different rooms.

I have connected my computer to the tv but never through router system

Isnt that Windows Media PC's. when there connected together the computer streams the audio video to the other pc and plays on your tv.
