I have a Klipsch computer subwoofer that I would like to convert to use with my home theater however I have no idea how to connect the subwoofer to my reciever.

Can this be done and if so, how?

Thanks,

Thanks for replying.

The Klipsch are the original issue 4.1 ProMedia series. What I would like to do is somehow rewire the sub so I can connect it to my receiver however I am admittedly lame in this area. The sub is similar to this one here:

Thanks again,

Hmm...do you have a digital camera? If you could post a pic of the back panel, that would be marvelous. I can't find it on shopping sites or Klispch's site.

Here you go. Hopefully you can see what you need to see. If not, let me know and I'll shoot it again.

Thanks,

Hmm, it looks like all of your connections go to your control module. The standard sub output on a receiver is an RCA plug, so you need to get a an adapter that converts 1/8" stereo phone plug to two RCAs. I'm sure if the subwoofer is tip or ring, so you'll have to experiment with the adapter.

You'll need something like this from Ram Electronics. You need the female RCA one. Radio shack should carry them too:

Thanks so much for your reply, jaxvon, however, I am confused.

Wouldn't I need something that would plug into the lower right of the picture I posted and then have an RCA on the other end? Do they make something like this?

Thanks and sorry for being such a newb. :(

Doesn't your control pod plug into the jack in the lower right of the picture? It looks like a proprietary jack.

Yeah, the control pod is on one of the speakers and it is all hardwired into that speaker. Here's a (bad) pic of the jack:

Additonally, it is labeled: pre-amp input

Do you have a pic of the back of the speaker that does the control? You know, you might just be better off getting a new subwoofer for your HT setup. It'd be less of a headache...

But that's always the solution! Spend more money! :p

Yeah, I know. I'm just trying to salvage a good sub.

(SMEGGIE packs up and heads to Best Buy)

Thanks for your help, man. I appreciate it!!

Noes! Not Best Buy!

How much are you budgeting for a subwoofer? I can almost guarantee you'll get reamed at BB.

I'd like to keep it under $200. (at least for now)

(I have wife approval issues)

Any recommendations???

Thanks!!

Yeah I'll second on the no to Best Buy.
Best Buy sells my sub for 473.00
I got it from an authorized dealer Brand New for 232.00 and that included shipping.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll check these links out and will avoid the now dreaded Best Buy. :)

So what other brands do you guys like here besides BIC?

Thanks,

There are tons of great brands around, but it depends on your budget. In the $200-ish area, the most sub you can buy is either going to be a BIC or a Cadence. You'll find that in the sub-$1000 price class for things, spending an extra $100-200 will yield some big differences. After that, it takes more money to really get a difference.

If you're looking to do some sweet upgrades on a budget, I'll have to plug BIC speakers yet again. For $125/pr shipped, I don't think you can buy better bookshelf speakers. They play clean, clear, and LOUD. Great bass too, especially for the size of the speaker. I can guarantee that a set of these and either that BIC sub I posted or the slightly more expensive Cadence sub would be an amazing improvement to your current system. And it would give you a chance to use those beautiful racks! I'd say you can put together a 5.1 system with speakers, subwoofer, receiver, and DVD player for under $1000, cables included.

Well for a sub under 200.00 you are quite limited. Even my JBL was over the 2 mark at 232.00 it IMO has great bass response. Then again the small sub you have, will not fill a room. And you would not feel the soundwaves hit you. The 2 in your range that I can think of is the Bic and JBL.
However their will be some biased people around that may comment on these 2.
And they may have more solutions for you.
So keep your eyes posted.....

EDIT:: Forgot about the X-Sub for 240.00 (Cadence)

Thanks again for your replies.

I hate starting small but financially right now, I have to. I checked out the links you posted and I like what I see. I assume that all of these are self-powered subs, is that right? Do you guys have any experience with any of these online vendors and if so, who have you had success with?

Thanks again for your patience with my "newbie-eity!"
