Do I need a CD player/changer?

Ok, stupid question. Do I need an actual CD player for my home theater system to play regular CD's? Here's my problem: I have a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver and a Yamaha DVD S1500 DVD player. The sound on DVD's is kick-***, but when I play a regular CD, it doesn't sound so hot. I've tried every setting on the receiver, and I am not satisfied w/ the quality. If it means anything, my DVD is hooked up to the receiver w/ only a digital connection. If I hook up an analog setup also, will this solve my problem? Or do I need a CD player/changer? I would say no.I think a dedicated cd player/changer would give you better results.There are alot of decent players out there so depending at what budget your looking at would help you decide.For openers if your looking for a decent changer look at the marantz cc4300 its an excellent budget player.

What doesn't sound good? No bass? Not clear? IMO, the 1500 should be a decent CD player, so I would suspect there is a setting somewhere that is wrong in the player or possibly on the receiver that you've missed (it happens). I would not expect a CD player to solve the problem, unless it is a problem with the player itself.

I had the CC4000 and I hated it (have not heard the 4300). Sound wasn't as good as I had hoped, and then it went and died for no apparent reason after just 5 months, taking one of my CDs with it. I replaced it with the Sony CA70ES and it actually sounded much better, which I didn't expect, and I then replaced that with the 222ES for SACD.
