How to select a DVD-R

Folks, I need some help in deciding on a DVD-R. Can someone tell me the difference between "General Purpose", "Printable" and any other types of DVD-R's that are available in the market? I need the DVD-R to record movies with my panasonic ES10 DVD recorder.

Please take a look at http://www.blank-cd-cdr.com/dv4xblme.html and let me know which one is recommended! I guess I am OK with an 8X disc (not sure if it really matters when I record using a DVD recorder).

firstly your dvd recorder only uses 1x speed, so the burn speed makes no difference. most dvd-r's are at least 4-8x. 8x's seem to be the most popular right now because they are pretty cheap.

inkjet printable discs are only needed if you have an epson printer that can print on the disc. otherwise just get normal dvd's. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

this is the ratings of all the classes of media.. stick with the top one.
the new prodiscs are MCC, which are in the top.

www.supermediastore.com has soem pretty good prices.

Before going and buying a 50+ pack of dvdr's, get a couple 1-5 packs from different manufactures and try them out.

Every dvd player and recorder can be picky when it comes to media. The most expensive doesnt mean it's the best.

I totally agree, that is exactly what I showed at the other post. The thread I posted was started about DVD+R but ended up with -R and shows that the TY discs are not all what they are cracked up to be.
