Been reading for a few days(lots of good info here BTW) and thought I would publish my current HT.....don't laugh too hard. :p

Pioneer VSX-505s
Main- Bose 701
Center- Bose VSC-10
Surround- Bose Acoustimass 3
Sub- Pioneer S-w200
Pioneer 25disc(don't recall Model #)
Panisonic DVD player
Sony Trinitron 32"

Really want to upgrade the sub for under $300 and after some reading my first choice atm is to get 2- Dayton 10" powered subs from partexpress. I'm working with an enlisted man's budget so bare with me.

You might get a couple of laughs, but usually no one is harsh here.
For a sub in that price range, may I suggest a JBL E250P 12" link will be below. I picked up New & Sealed from authorized dealer 232.00 and that included shipping. (people are surely tired of me recommending it, but you can't beat it for that price-Best Buy sells it for 473.00 before tax.)

Also pics would help, to see if it is a clean set-up....
Here is the link to JBL

Funny you responded as I had did a search on this site for subs and your name along with the JBL came up a few times. :) I need to get up to Tuscon and listen to it firsthand. All I remember is the boominess JBL was famous for back in the day.

EDIT: I just looked in the Post Exchange catalog and it does have the E250P for $299 shipped. You mine disclosing where you purchased yours at?

As for pictures, I'll try and get some up here in the next couple days. I would like to switch rooms as the one I have the HT in now is a odd shape and very compact with a fullsize lazyboy and sectional. I have a fairly large living room I want use.(approx. 800 sq/ft)

they will link you to JBL factory direct. i just called them looking for the s120II sub. I think they sell refurbished E250's for about 160$ and new ones for about $230 both with a factory warrantys. I might be wrong but If youve got free minutes it wouldnt hurt. also check e-bay and u-bid for subs. Good Luck!

I'm much more familar with CPUs than HT. :)

Well, this site is getting to me. I've already developed a "wish list" and posted it on the fridge for the wife to see. I'm going with a 6-8 month plan for phase I of the upgrade.

First project is actually going to be a custom audio rack. Probably going to use some 3/4" MDF that I have laying around and get some threaded rods from the HD and work off the flexy design. Also going to refinish an old coffee table and use it to mount the TV on.

2nd will be the sub upgrade....still not 100% what I want to go with...the e250p JBL or the (2) daytons?

3rd will be a new pioneer receiver(going to try for the 1015TX model)

....and finally a decent DVD player that must support DVD-r/+r.

Shooting to have all this done around New Years, remember this is on a serious budget. Phase II will be speaker upgrades but that is a ways away.

Ok here is what I've got so far on the list and it's right on the "budget" for Phase I ($1000). Any input is welcomed of course.

Pioneer VSX-1015TX $449.00 from www.vanns.com

Pioneer DV-588A-S $130 shipped off of ebay

Logitech harmony 688 Advanced Universal Remote $130 ebay or www.jr.com

DVR / Tivo $180(need to get another line installed...Direct (SAT)TV)

Now either the JBL E250P 12" sub off ebay for $199.00 plus $70 shipping

or

(2) Dayton 12" 150w sub from parts express for $138 X 2= $277 plus shipping

I know the remote might be a little excessive but I'm tired of the 5 remote thing and the 688 has DVR controls.

Sounds like it's all coming together. I hate to do this but have you considered the Cadence Xsub? $219 at UBID shipped and it is a better sub than that JBL IMO. There is also the Bic America 12" sub. I don't know if either would be better than 2 subs from parts express but that Cadence sub has mare rms wattage than 2 of those PE subs put together.

Seems like you're putting together a heck of a HT on a geat budget. Keep the posts coming.

More choices  ....no they both look like contenders and I especially like the fact that the Bic is a down firing sub.

Ok, getting back into things(real busy at work lately), I got a pic of my setup. Enjoy :D Should have a Dayton 12" next month!

One more question while I'm at it. What would be a good replacement for the bose 701s for around $500? Perferably floorstanding, thanks.

You might want to check out the BIC DV84 floorstanders. They have great imaging and a superb tweeter. Here's a quick writeup from a user, you could PM him or MacManNM if you wanna ask some more in-depth questions. I have the BIC DV62SI bookshelves and they absolutely rock. Incredible speakers for the price, and anywhere near it.

Looks like I might go another route and go Bic all the way with there Acoustech 6 Speaker Home Theater System along with the Pioneer VSX-1015TX.

My only concern is going from the Bose dual 8" drivers to the 6.5s in the HT 65s? Would jumping up to the DV84 be worth the price difference??

So much for my plan to do this in phases.

From what I've seen there really isn't that much of a price difference between the DV84's and the HT-75's, maybe like 20 dollars when its all said and done with shipping costs included, unless theres a place I havent seen yet. They are two completely different speaker designs because the HT-75 uses the horn tweeter which is excelent for home theater special effects and more rock/pop type music. The DV84 uses a dome tweeter I believe, which is going to have a totally different sound. It really comes down to personal preferance. If you want an idea of what the Acoustech's will sound like, go listen to a Klipsh RF-25 tower.

Ebay has them new with $39 s/h.

I can't recommend it since I've never auditioned it, but Brian seems to like it. I'm not sure if he's compared it to the BIC 1220 or Acoustech 12" sub. The Cadence is a great value at $219 shipped.

Oh, I like it, but there are certainly better ones out there. Including the JBL Studio Series you posted last week. But still, I think its a bargain. And it can be had cheaper from a authorized dealer at 232.00 shipped. Now the E150 (JBL's 10") I have heard and it is awful. At very low levels it does distort, and at slightly higher levels it bottoms out very easy. The Klipsch is not bad, but there also is better for the price (mainstream line can be heard at BB)
If someone is going the route of the Acoustec set, then for a matching set the HT100 may actually suite them better. Or the 1220 for the Bic set. They both have very decent specs. (granted I've heard niether) Once again, I could no way diss, the X-Sub. And it to in the same price range is certainly a contender. So any of the ones mentioned that can be had for a good price, would be a very decent starter (entry level).
Then again, if you want a step up surely the SVS line will do great, also I see the Outlaw gets superb reviews...

Well, from your description and what I am primarily going to use the system for(HT), the HT-75 should work out just fine. I am going up to Tucson at the end of the month and while I'm up there stop in at BB and check out the RF-25s.

Actually the Acoustechs are better than the RF-25
They would be closer to the RF-35
