It is finally available by mail or download, but for those in the U.S., Mexico, or South America.

I am hoping to hear from some of you soon about how it works.

This doesn't seem to be the latest for the DVD-3910 or DVD-5900 yet, but it should be soon.

Unfortunately for all of us who are waiting, this is not the DLink 3 upgrade. Like Clint said, hopefully soon.

I selected DVD3910s, put in the serial number, then clicked the check for updates button. It took me to a page where it requires me to register. On this page, it listed the version information as follow:

Upgrade Version: ESS-6609-B SYS-6767-5 CNE-1028
Upgrade Date: May 2005

The version in my machine is:
ESS-6609-5 SYS-6767-3 CNE-20040609

Anyway, I cannot be 100% sure, but the upgrade version information does match up with the one (apparently from Germany) mentioned in another forum. People there have tried it and DL3 was enabled after the upgrade. I cannot register because I am from Canada. Yet it recognized the serial number.

Peng,

The upgrade you listed does not include DL3. There have been numerous posts on getting the Euro version of DL3 and many have installed this sucessfully (myself included). The AVS site (3910 Owners thread) has the info. Otherwise, sit tight and wait for the Official US ver.

Hidog1, thank you for clearing this up, I shouldn't have doubted Clint in the first place. He obviously knows what he's talking about.

One question, if I install that Europe version now, could I apply the U.S. version over it later. I keep hearing that the U.S. version is coming soon. My SACD collection is getting bigger by the day, but I am not going to buy another 5 pairs of RCA IC cables.

Peng,

Any answer to that would be a guess. The euro ver works fine so I see no reason why you would want to install the US ver unless it was offering additional features/fixes and in that case, a newer version than the euro would likely upgrade with no problems. Always an element of risk to the un-offical upgrades but the euro is from Denon and so I saw no issues.

It is probably going to be a long wait for us in Canada. I think I am going to load the Euro version. Thanks again for the info.

Odd that the US upgrade is rumored to consist of 7 CDs, while the European version was only 3.

Nice teaser Gene. That may be the most interesting tidbit from your entire trip.

7 CD's... Well they must have lots of new files to fix problems with specific media, like the last release. I take great solace in knowing the when I finally watch the River Dance DVD (when hell freezes over) it will be minus the play back errors that existed before the last upgrade. Way to go Denon!

Humm,

I do not know what it is you downloaded but I doubt it is the DL3 ver.

I just visited the Denon site and there is no mention of the DL3 upgrade. Then, I made the mistake of calling their wonderful customer service and was told DL3 is not out yet and that when it does come out, it will require shipping the unit to a service center for this upgrade:confused:. I was clear that I have a DVD 3910.

The person I spoke with at Denon (he said he was in Chicago) was apparently just spouting the company line and was EXTREMELY rude when I questioned him on this. Apparently, at Denon customer service means you can be rude and evasive with customers (who have spent thousands of dollars on Denon products) who ask questions about product features that were promised, but have never been delivered. I may have purchased my last piece of Denon equipment.

Bummer of an experience and a shame they are not the first ones informed. But I just downloaded the latest upgrade (July 05) and opened the pdf file. It includes everything the May 05 release has with the addition of DLink 3. If you have already installed May 05 then you only have to burn disk #2 for the SACD playback.

I'll be doing this in just a moment.

Only one since I had already loaded the May 05 update. I thought I had done something wrong as after the update I put in a disc. Nothing changed. The 3805 still displayed Ext.In. I reread the instructions, this time all the way through and low and behold it stated to change the Denon Link status to 3rd in the 3910. Did that and now I can get rid of 5 cables!

Sorry, after re-reading the post I see I did not answer your question. This update requires 3 disks total.

I did mine too but its the Euro version so there are only 3 CDs. I wonder what the differences are between the Euro and NA versions. Regardless, it works, I am glad I resisted buying 5 pairs of RCA ICs.

I must thank hidog1 again. If it was not for him, I would still be listening to those 2 ch layers. Who knows when the upgrade will come to our little country in the North.

Just checked the U.S. site, it has the same version information such as:

ESS 6609-B, MakeDay 413D, DRV 030825, SYS 6767-5, the only difference is it has a CNE1028 number instead of the Euro's C20041028, whatever that means...

No need to thank me mate. Just glad it worked out for you. Several people have loaded the US version over the Euro or UK version with no problems. They appear to be identical.

It’s nice to have this excellent DVD player finally living up to its full promise. The market should be good for used RCA IC’s ;)

Yesterday I loaded the DL3 upgrade and popped in Dark Side of the Moon. I switched back and forth from Ext.In to DL3 and noticed about a 5db difference in output. Is this normal?

I haven't played with the settings but will do that this afternoon.

Thanks.

Once I got DL3 working I pulled the analog cables so did not notice any output differences. I re-ran the Auto EQ as well. I assume you were using an SPL meter for your test.

Is there a need to re-run the Auto EQ?

I did not use the SPL meter. But the volume had a noticeable increase. I'm not going to worry about it as I pulled my analog cables as well. Bummer since I recently purchased them. Oh, well...

Have any of you guys tried using the firewire cable opposed to DL3. I myself have a yamaha receiver (RXZ9) and can't use DL3 at the moment.

I was just wondering if there was any audible difference. My 3910 has both the DL3 and the firewire. But I do think about switching to a denon if having proprietary denon link would be superior to having different units and using firewire.

So if any of you have tried both options with your 3910, let us know your thoughts.

I am using firewire with the Z9. Works great with all audio formats with fantastic sound. If you don't have a Denon receiver, this is the way to make the 3910 universal with only one audio cable.
