Without enciting a debate as to whether or not an investment in the sure-to-be-abandoned SACD format is a good idea:

I'd like to know if anyone has some suggestions on a DVD player under $500.00 that supports SACD playback. Sony had a 5-disc changer that offers this but it is discontinued and even if it wasn't, I try to stay away from changers.

Suggestions?

Thanks

You should be able to find some wonderful products in the $500 range.

If you don't mind the ebay or audiogon route there are some very nice players available for less than $500.

I saw some Denon 2900, 2910 & 2200s
Yamaha DVD-S2300
Marantz DV6500
SONY ES DVP-NS999ES
Pioneer Elite DV-47ai

For the money, the Samsung 941 is pretty highly touted over at AVS Forum. It plays SACD/DVD-A and has an HDMI upconversion for less than $150.

Hey all, Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm seeing that Samsung player with pricing all over the board. Makes me worry that if I get it for $150.00 that it's B-stock or refurb. Amazon is selling it for that amount and not through a third party, either. Hmm... ???

.....Drgroovee, I am soon to order a Samsung 950 for under 200....I have a two year-old 931, it has pleased me VERY much, and instantly made a boat-anchor, video and audio-wise, out of a Sony NS755V DVD player that cost me 350 online....Sony TV's are tuff, but that DVD player slurped the big green one.....

Forgive me if this is a slight hi-jack, but I am in the market for a new universal player, but don't want to spend too much (highly anticipating hd/bd). I would be interested in knowing where you are getting this player, Mulester?

That's not a hi-jack at all. I'm interested in the same info.

If a <$200 price is wanted, and from a highly reputable seller, B&H Photo Video sells this product for $195:
