Hello,
I am new to HT and need a DVD player. I have a Mitsubishi WS-55813 RPTV.
I have done a little research and it seems that there are conflicting views on whether or not to connect the video through the DVI or the component video. My question is, what DVD player would provide the right connections and have good video quality? My price range is about 300-350, but I would be willing to go a little over that if the quality is going to be much better.
Thnk you,
Pete

In that price range the Panasonic - DVD-S97 should be given a serious look. It has excellent video performance using either component or HDMI/DVI connections.

Are you interested in strictly video or does the player also need compatibility with other formats such as DVD-A and/or SACD?
As far as the connections are concerned, I think that most folks just try both types (dvi/hdmi or component) and see which is better with their particular display.

This would be strictly for video. And surround sound sound, but I will be using the digital connection so I guess audio quality is not a concern. Thanks for the quick replies.

What about the Pioneer DVR57H? I was planning on doing Tivo anyway. And the DVD recorder function seems very useful. Will I be sacrificing anything by going with a unit like this?

The Pioneer Tivo unit is a very neat item, are those in the $300 range now days? That DVD player does have a what would be considered slow layer change but besides that it's a solid unit.

By slow layer change, are you talking about that pause that players have in the middle of a movie? If so, I find that to be very annoying. Are there any units out there that are similar to the Pioneer?
