.....Gentlemen, and I must say, Ladies, and welcome, please forgive the "de-nuxxxd", this story is reputed to be an Urban Legend, and I'm sure many of you are familiar with it.....Urban Legend---from the suburbs and not true, if you will....but, what you need to do is, run a copy of the recipe and the all-important, "methods", and BEG, your wife to make the cookies, asap, with emphasis on, asap....(it's the ground up oatmeal)......
A little background: Neiman-Marcus, if you don't know already, is a
very expensive store; i.e., they sell your typical $8.00 T-shirt for
$50.00.
Let's let them have it! THIS IS A TRUE STORY!
My daughter and I had just finished a salad at a Neiman-Marcus Cafe in
Dallas, and we decided to have a small dessert. Because both of us are such
cookie lovers, we decided to try the "Neiman-Marcus cookie." It was so
excellent that I asked if they would give me the recipe, and the waitress
said with a small frown, "I'm afraid not, but you can buy the recipe."
Well, I asked how much, and she responded, "Only two fifty-it's a great
deal!" I agreed to that, and told her to just add it to my tab. Thirty days
later, I received my VISA statement, and the Neiman-Marcus charge was
$285.00! I looked again, and I remembered I had only spent $9.95 for two
salads and about $20.00 for a scarf. As I glanced at the bottom of the
statement, it said, "Cookie Recipe-$250.00". That was outrageous!
I called Neiman's Accounting Department and told them the waitress said
it was "two fifty", which clearly does not mean "two hundred and fifty
dollars" by any reasonable interpretation of the phrase. Neiman-Marcus
refused to budge. They would not refund my money because, according to
them, "What the waitress told you is not our problem. You have already seen
the recipe.
We absolutely will not refund your money at this point." I explained to
the Accounting Department lady the criminal statutes which govern fraud in
the state of Texas. I threatened to report them to the Better Business
Bureau and the Texas Attorney General's office for engaging in fraud. I was
basically told, "Do what you want. Don't bother thinking of how you can get
even, and don't bother trying to get any of your money back." I just said,
Okay, you folks got my $250, and now I'm going to have $250 worth of fun."
I told her that I was going to see to it that every cookie lover in the
United States with an e-mail account has a $250 cookie recipe from
Neiman-Marcus...for free. She replied, "I wish you wouldn't do this." I
said, "Well, perhaps you should have thought of that before you ripped me
off!" and slammed down the phone. So here it is! Please, please, please
pass it on to everyone you can possibly think of. I paid $250 for this, and
I don't want Neiman-Marcus to EVER make
another penny off of this recipe!
NEIMAN-MARCUS COOKIES (Recipe may be halved)
2 cups butter
24 oz. chocolate chips
4 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar
1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
5 cups blended oatmeal
4 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (your choice)
Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender to a fine powder. Cream the
butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with flour,
oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey Bar,
and nuts. Roll into balls, and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 112 cookies.

A man lay sprawled across three entire seats in the plush theatre.
When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the man, "Sorry, sir, but you're only allowed one seat."
The man groaned but didn't budge.
The usher became impatient. "Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."
Again, the man just groaned, which infuriated the usher who turned and marched briskly back up the aisle in search of his manager.
In a few moments, both the usher and the manager returned and stood over the man.
Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move him, but with no success.
Finally, they summoned the police.
The cop surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy, what's your name?" "Sam," the man moaned.
"Where ya from, Sam?"
With pain in his voice Sam replied, "the balcony."

Little Derek was in the 4th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living.
All the typical answers came up, fireman, policeman, salesman, etc...Derek was being uncharacteristically quiet, and the teacher asked him about his father.
Derek said, "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret, and takes off all his clothes in front of other men."
The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring, and took little Derek aside to ask him, "is that really true about your father?"
"No," said Derek, "he coaches for the Razorbacks, but I was too embarrassed to say so."

17. You girlfriend must bond with your buddy's girlfriends within 30 minutes of meeting them. You are not required to make nice with her gal pals significant friends - low-level sports bonding is all the law requires.
18. When stumbling upon other guys watching a sports event, you may always ask the score of the game in progress, but you may never ask who's playing.
19. When your girlfriend/wife expresses a desire to fix her whiney friend up with your pal, you may give her the go-ahead only if you'll be able to warn your budd and give him time to prepare excuses about joining the priesthood.
20. It is permissible to consume a fruity chick drink only when you're sunning on a tropical beach... and it's delivered by a topless supermodel... and it's free.
21. Unless you're in prison, never fight naked.
22. A man in the company of a hot, suggestively dressed woman must remain sober enough to fight.
23. If a buddy is outnumbered, out manned, or too drunk to fight, you must jump into the fight. Exception: If within the last 24 hours his actions have caused you to think, "What this guy needs is a good ***-whoopin", then you may sit back and enjoy.
24.Phrases that may NOT be uttered to another man while weight lifting: "Yeah, baby, push it!"
"C'mon, give me one more! Harder!"
"Another set and we can hit the showers."
" Nice arse, are you a Sagittarius?"
25.Never hesitate to reach for the last beer or the last slice of pizza, but not both. That's just plain mean.
26. If you compliment a guy on his six-pack, you better be referring to his beer.
27. Never join your girlfriend/wife in discussing a buddy, except when she's witholding sex pending your response.
28. Never talk to a man in the bathroom unless you're on equal footing: either both urinating or both waiting in line. In all other situations, a nod is all the conversation you need.
29.If a buddy is already singing along to a song in the car, you may not join him .....too gay.

""THE POINT SYSTEM OF WAF""
In the world of romance, one single rule applies to the men:
Make the woman happy.
Do something she likes, and you get points.
Do something she dislikes, and points are subtracted.
You don't get any points for doing something she expects.
Here is a guide to the point system :
==============================
SIMPLE DUTIES:
You make the bed. (+1)
You make the bed, but forget the decorative pillow. (0)
You throw the bedspread over rumpled sheets. (-1)
You go out to buy her what she wants. (+5)
In the rain. (+10)
But return with beer. (-15)
You check out a suspicious noise at night. (0)
You check out a suspicious noise and it is nothing. (0)
You check out a suspicious noise and it is something. (+5)
You pummel it with an iron rod. (+10)
It's her pet. (-25)
==============================
SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS:
You stay by her side for the entire party. (0)
You stay by her side for a while, then leave to chat with college buddy (-2)
Named Tina. (-4)
Tina is a dancer. (-10)
Tina has breast implants. (-80)
Really big breast implants. (-200)
==============================
HER BIRTHDAY:
You take her out to dinner. (0)
You take her out to dinner and it's not a sports bar. (+1)
Okay, it is a sports bar. (-2)
And it's all-you-can-eat night. (-3)
It's a sports bar, it's all-you-can-eat night, and your face is painted the colors of your favorite team. (-10)
==============================
A NIGHT OUT:
You take her to a movie. (+2)
You take her to a movie she likes. (+4)
You take her to a movie you hate. (+6)
You take her to a movie you like. (-2)
And it's called "Death Cop". (-3)
You lied and said it was a foreign film about orphans that was featured on "Oprah". (-15)
==============================
YOUR PHYSIQUE:
You develop a noticeable potbelly. (-15)
You develop a noticeable potbelly and exercise to get rid of it (+10)
You develop a noticeable potbelly and resort to baggy jeans and baggy Hawaiian shirts. (-30)
You say, "It doesn't matter, you have one too." (-10,000)
==============================
ENJOY THE 'BIG' QUESTION:
She asks, "Do I look fat?" (-5) (Yes, you LOSE points no matter WHAT you say.)
You hesitate in responding. (-10)
You reply, "Where?" (-35)
Any other response. (-20)
==============================
COMMUNICATION:
When she wants to talk about a problem, you listen, displaying what looks like a concerned __expression. (0)
You listen for over 30 minutes. (+50)
You listen for more than 30 minutes without looking at the TV. (+500)
She realizes this is because you have fallen asleep.(-5,000)

Yay! :)
If you shovel alot, its less work each time. All you have to do is push the shovel until you reach the end of your drive way. Keep repeating until the whole thing is done, or atleast when the area the tires go is clear.
This isn't to hard for me.
Plus, I go to the gym...

Here Ron, I figured you might like this one. I always get this stuff from my cousin.
Daddy's Poem
Her hair was up in a pony tail,
her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
and she couldn't wait to go.
But her mommy tried to tell her,
that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
if she went to school alone.
But she was not afraid;
she knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
of why he wasn't there today.
But still her mother worried,
for her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
she tried to keep her daughter home.
But the little girl went to school
eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
a dad who never calls.
There were daddies along the wall in back,
for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
anxious in their seats
One by one the teacher called
a student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
as seconds slowly passed.
At last the teacher called her name,
every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
a man who wasn't there.
"Where's her daddy at?"
she heard a boy call out.
"She probably doesn't have one,"
another student dared to shout.
And from somewhere near the back,
she heard a daddy say,
"Looks like another deadbeat dad,
too busy to waste his day."
The words did not offend her,
as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back,
slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
came words incredibly unique.
"My Daddy couldn't be here,
because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
since this is such a special day.
And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
and how much he loves me so.
He loved to tell me stories
he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
and taught me to fly a kite.
We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
I'm not standing here alone.
"Cause my daddy's always with me,
even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
he'll forever be in my heart"
With that, her little hand reached up,
and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
beneath her favorite dress.
And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads,
her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
who was wise beyond her years.
For she stood up for the love
of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
doing what was right.
And when she dropped her hand back down,
staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
but its message clear and loud.
"I love my daddy very much,
he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here,
but heaven's just too far.
You see he was a policeman
and died just this past year
When airplanes hit the towers
and taught Americans to fear.
But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away."
And then she closed her eyes,
and saw him there that day.
And to her mothers amazement,
she witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
all starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they saw before them,
who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
they saw him at her side.
"I know you're with me Daddy,"
to the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
of those once filled with doubt.
Not one in that room could explain it,
for each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.
And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
that heaven is never too far.
They say it takes a minute to find a special
person, an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them, but then an entire
life to forget them.

.....ok, from the street corner....one last plea....guys, my Canon EOS 620 body, 18 years of age, and the readout is still as beautiful a blue at night as ever, has shutter speeds measured by the exposure meter from 30 seconds to 1/4000 that is accessed through the "auto" setting....please, help me with digital information....what is the exposure-limit speeds for current brand-new digital Nikon SLR's....and, I won't buy zooms this time....fixed only....here's the real question....the factors are, a digital camera, on a tripod at night, and really anytime....to what kelvin temperature exposure is a digital camera attuned?....films go from daylight kelvin of 3200 to tunsten, not sure of kelvin rating on the tungsten, but it's way below, 'cause the colors at night don't go nutty like using daylight film at night....what are the exposure limits on "auto" for a digital Nikon SLR?....chicklets awaiteth, haha.......
.....edit....I suspect the digital camera doesn't recognize any kelvin temperature except what conditions bees....that has the potential to be staggeringly natural off a tripod at night....last time....what are the speeds of auto for digital Nikon SLR's?....a "Season" of chicklets awaiteth.....
.....edit the second....you guys don't know what I'm talking about off a tripod at night....I don't have a clue if it will work for sure with digital, but with a 35 mm film cameras of any quality like 100 bucks, that for sure has "auto" setting for exposure, you need to try this....daylight or tungsten night film, it don't matter....you look out in the pitch black, and see little, then the prints come back and you stand in amazement....trust me....2 am, "auto" setting, NO FLASH, dark subject like a building, but there's enough lumen count for you to see form, the camera's on a tripod, again, it's 2 am, you've looked through the viewfinder and cropped your shot and focused looking at the most contrasting section through the viewfinder,....then....one hair-like touch on the trigger to get the shot, easy, don't shake the camera, exposure by attached cable if possible....and I'll say best results with SLR's, where lenses are detachable, and the quality of the body and mechanisms is shoulders above....amazing detail comes back on the prints, try it.....

.....nay, Sir, and won't, until I determine I can get what I want off a tripod at night..........and, my exposure compensation rolled to a full 30 seconds, would probably render a fully stopped-down aperture of F-32....but, your camera might be automatically aperture-leaning wide-open, at F-1.2, that's Nikon '50mm normal' special-fast, and your speed might be only 1/4 second, which HAS to be shot off a tripod, and "THAT'S", why this works at night with a "range" of "automatic" cameras that use film....I know, that was a mouthful....what?....well, nobody would answer me, so I'm answerin' myself....I love what I do off a tripod at night, and my shots will be exposed for a 30 full seconds, with the aperture closed down for depth-of-field....the aperture closed down all the way, usually pretty quickly, gives depth-of-field that becomes overkill for max image quality....I call what I do, "30 Second Burn-In's", kinda' catchy, huh?....but, the results you get with YOUR camera using any temperatured kelvin film, try daylight Kodak 200, gives wild colors at night around a city, shoot downtown buildings fairly well lit but still faceless at night, have it processed at Sam's as normal with Kodak 200 C-26 processing, only Sam's offers 3 5x7's, on each negative of 36, that's 108 5X7's, for about 11 bucks, beat that, Barney Louise, and 5X7 IS, a legitimate enlargement, prepare to be amazed with the detail you'll get, WILL, be most worthy of your admiration....yeah, "the results you get with YOUR camera using any kelvin temperatured film, WILL, be most worthy of your admiration", haha, hey, I'll give ya' run-on-sentence twice........once again and the last time, maybe, you will be amazed with what you see on the prints, shot with no flash, at 2 am.....141 pound amp....good grief....I ain't got a clue....but the thing is reputed to get cleaner as it gets louder, so I'll hang in there....I can surely get what I got in it, with a free Democrat want-ad if it comes to that....sorry, guys, I wouldn't ship 141 pounds 'cept at gunpoint........amp shootout comin', hide the horses and kids....yes, they make films for daylight that's sold commercially, and that's all the general public ever thinks about with their flashes, but camera stores sell film for night, to be shot off a sturdy tripod....march right in and ask for the brand name, "Nocturnally Tungsten", and you'll get laughed out of the store, haha....asking for Tungsten film will do just fine for the wordage, haha........and lastly, nobody sells a film for 5 in the afternoon YELLOW, when your beard's itchin', traffic's backed up, and you're a'scratchin'....know what I mean, Vern, huh?....

....well, I barely missed the noose this weekend on getting to ride a freight train 155 miles and back....this being on a guaranteed railroad supplemental board to the extra-board of a subdivision is not a half-bad thing, to say the least, working a two-day turn to Van Buren, an average of once every three weeks, and getting paid 80%, of what it would pay, were I doing it every two days, back to back....yeah, best deal I've EVER run into at work, and it's totally honorable........at the away terminal, Van Buren/Fort Smith, there's a 15 track yard, a mile and 1/2 long....the yard van comes and gets us off the headend, with the headend stopped short of Main Street, and takes us back to the yard office one mile, where we tie-up on the computer....but when we first come by yard limits a mile away from the yard, I call the motel, and tell them we need the motel van to be at the yard office in 20 minutes....the drive takes 15....we tie up with grips already loaded in the motel van, hit the inner-city freeway, and ride for about 15 minutes, crossing the Arkansas River into Fort Smith, to Zero Street exit....we check into the motel with a special Union Pacific card of plastic, then have 12-16 hours to do whatever, until our room phone rings from Union Pacific to take a train back to NLR two hours later, and there's good opportunity for food 24/7 close around the motel with a Western Sizzler across the street, that has taken frying chicken to a real good level....guys, I can have a large time at a buffet, if the fried chicken is good to me, can I get an Amen?........anyhow, when I go to my room from the checking in process, I usually do a bath/melt first-off, then watch TV 'till I fade, lying on the bed, progressively pulling up the covers, and go to sleep with a pillow between my knees in the fetal position on my side....unless I go eat fried chicken first, you know, haha....the motel has the most glorious HOT water with HUGE pressure.....146,000,000 gallons of it if you want it....I turn the room air conditioner on blizzard when I first come into the room, and leave the hot bath sweatin' like a wild man, puttin' off steam vapor, TV blarin', and sit on the bed with a large bathtowel folded under me with one around my shoulders, and sit in front of a Lakewood 9 inch metal-cage-fan from the nightstand on high, and that's a lotta' wind....feels so good....sweating subsides in 10 or so, I put on my big black T-shirt, and progressively move under the wonderful combination of covers, with the fan from WallyWorld, (last plug), making me find a cold air hole through the wrapped comforter around my head....you know what I'm talking about.....the rooms are Great....the ones we get, are geared toward being in a working man's world of needs....GOOD TV, GOOD air conditioner, GOOD huge chest ice-maker 20-30 feet down the carpeted hall that never runs out even in August, ugh, August, adequate microwave, ice box, four-cup coffee maker, baskets of creams and sugars and stirrers and coffee foil-wrapped, big clock radio by the TV, did I mention the TV's were better than the other rooms?, and extra tables for grips, both the carrying kind with large straps, and the rolling-on-one-end kind, you know.......really, to back off and look at it, my life is messing around with stereo components, being online, sleeping when I want to, getting out of the house enough doing things wholesome, and getting to ride a freight train twice, once, about every three weeks average....the Conductor, of which I are one, takes track warrants over the radio from the dispatcher in Omaha using a microwave tower system, and reads them back to the dispatcher....then, the dispatcher ok's the readback giving an exact maritime time and states his initials....that brings the final official readback from me varifying the ok time and repeating his initials I've written, and it's law....taking warrants is done from a book of forms where you tear one out, you know the type....on a form, I write places and mileposts giving authority to that point....at the end point of the limits, we stand to meet trains coming from the opposite direction....one will hold the mainline, and the other go in the siding....I also give up warrants back to the dispatcher, who's limits we have fulfilled....I get off on the ground, just enough, throwing a few switches....36-42 total hours, about 20 on the two trains, once every three weeks average....sure keeps it fun and interesting....I am blessed beyond measure as The Bible predicted.....

.....just got back from going to work Thursday night to Van Buren, and was called to dogcatch two trains on into NLR that fell short the night before....appears as though I could go back out again before midnight tonight to Van Buren....when a guy on a regular turn lays off, an extra-board guy is called to fill the regular turn, and if there is not an extra-board guy available and marked up ok, me and Steve get called from the supplemental board that covers the extra-board....sorry if that was as clear as your choicest Turkish mud....anyhow, currently, NO ONE, out of 12, is marked up available on the extra-board, and won't be 'till midnight plus one minute, the turds....just kidding, the poor guys work themselves half to death except on holidays, and I applaud them wanting to be with their families on holidays....on the regular-turn board of conductors, currently the first seven turns are marked-up ok....that would get me past midnight as about 5 trains on the line-up appear will show before midnight....but, I'm afraid the regular-turn guys will drop like flies though, as midnight approaches......
.....like I said, the system is torn down right now, but I've been thinking about the Earthquake, digesting a total of about four hours of listening to it....the engineer I just worked with up and back, has a home theater with projector and two HSU 3's the turbo-thing can be added to....he and I talked home theater for about 10 hours of the 20 up and back, and he was wanting to see and read about the turbo for possible consideration for his HSU 3's....he said he had heard his would take the turbo, and he wanted to read about it....I told him someone posted a link to a very good coverage of the turbo....could anyone find and post that link here?....I will then send it to the engineer by email......
.....I can say this about the Earthquake amp....when using it to push the four speakers producing cable tv sound as background low-moderate level while I was online, the Earthquake had me turning around and looking at the speakers and smiling occassionally when certain musics would play and it would sound wonderful and realistic....at low moderate background levels....I'm not sure I "ever" heard the same effect with the K2's at that low moderate background level.....to me, that's a huge compliment to the only variable that made the low moderate tv-sound, sound different.....kinda' like the SVS 16-46 Plus's I had that made the neatest low rumbles during actually quiet parts....when I hooketh uppeth the system nexteth, I will resume where I left off with two days of Earthquake....tv, CD's, and DVD's....then cold-turkey with the K2's and see where I'm at....and, I'm pretty sure where I'm going to be.....and that's making a decision on whether to presence with a K2 from the rear presence speakers....may go try to sleep awhile, guys....

Traditionally, one would go 'first-footing (http://www.new-year.co.uk/firstfoot.html)'. I went first-footing many years ago when I still lived in the Highlands (Glasgow, where I presently live, is in the Lowlands :(), but haven't gone for years now, as living in various cities doesn't particularly lend itself to getting to know one's community or indeed, neighbours.

.....the camera's a priority at this point....just got in a 72mm Hoya Skylight/UV/lens-protection filter....I got two lenses comin' that will use that filter, well, one of 'em will, and I hate the place only had one for $19.95, and that's dirt-cheap for 72mm anything....got two Hoya circular polarizers comin' from Overstock.com....72mm to be used common among at least three telephoto lenses, and 52mm to be used common with the 50 normal F-1.4 and 35mm F-1.4....
.....here's what I used as my basis for choosing a camera body and lenses....image quality, image quality, and image quality....here's what swayed me toward getting the most megapixels possible, along with the links I'll give at the last....Canon currently makes a digital body that has 16 megapixels rating....you can't get one for less than about $7500....Kodak makes one that has 14 megapixels rating, and you can't get one of them for less than about $4500....Nikon slips in there next with a 12.4 megapixels rating, I read somewhere it's 12.87 actual, I don't know, and you can get that one for about $2100....that's the one I'm looking at....with the oversized manual F-Series lenses for pronounced image quality, I should do about as well as at least the Kodak 14, I hope.....
.....here's two comparison links....the first one compares a Fugi that claims 12.3 mp's, but is actually 6.1 quality....the other picture, on the left, is done by a Canon that was 8 mp's rated....the pictures are very small compared to the large picture they were taken from....in fact, they are like an English Pea-sized crop, from a picture 8 "feet" by 10 "feet", to be compared for image quality deterioration.....8 megapixels on the left, and Fugi on the right....when the link opens, hit the F-11 key on your keyboard to max your page....
http://www.linaeum.com/images/s3_20D.jpg

It should be noted that the Kodak camera in this comparison does not have an anti-alias filter. This will allow slightly higher resolution than if it had the filter. Almost all cameras have anti-alias filters because they allow the camera to retain a linear transfer function as spatial resoltion increases past the sensors limits. The penalty for not having an anti-alias filter is random artifacts such as moire in high frequency patterns.

.....Chris, I've never heard of an anti-alias filter concerning camera lenses....are you referring to a skylight/UV filter?....
Digital camera sensor is homologous to an audio analog-digital convertor. If you try to sample frequencies equal to or greater than the sample rate * 0.5, the result will be aliasing. In audio, this means lower frequency artifacts contaminating the audio signal. In video/image systems, this means low frequency visual artifacts. Fortunately, in video/imaging, the phenomenon will tend to occur only in specific conditions. For example, if you have a far away roof, and shingles have very defined/bold edges, then the frequency of this will at points be appropriate to create a lower frequency bi-product artifact. In many cases, this distortion lends to an artificial added detail. The aliasing always occurs on high contrast edges, as is apparent in the Kodak compared to the Canon sensor in the above image you linked. The image should never look that sharp at 100 percent viewing magnification unless it is a result of excessive transient distortion(unsharp mask used heavily) or aliasing. Some people like the distortion effects, as evidenced by the cult-like following of Sigma digital DSLR cameras which use a sensor that does not have an antialis filter. However, the sensor used in Sigma DSLRs is a 3 color per sample point sensor and it's aliasing is monochromatic because all color channels are affected identically when it occurs. Therefor it will be less objectionable. The aliasing in the Kodak will tend to have chromatic components because it does not sample 3 colors per sample point, as most cameras do. This is no problem usually, but when combined with aliasing due to sample errors, the re-construction algorythm will make small errors that create these chromatic components in the aliasing. Fortunately, to make these very obvious, it takes a special combination of circumstances that will not happen most of the time in most scenes.
The anti-alias filter in a camera is essentially a blur filter that is placed directly over the camera sensor when it is manufactured. It prevents the sensor from being able to sample frequencies higher than it's Nyquist defined limits.

.....ok, Brian done told me by PM the anti-aliasing filter goes on inside the camera body's processing....it's shameful how little I know about digital concepts, but at least I have a good deal of past experience with film-cameras and knowledge of lenses to apply....I guess I'm just gonna' trust that camera body to do it's job, and let me try to twist some knobs....here's an eye-opener....using the older manual-focus lenses renders the Nikon D2X fully manual, with no metering to be had, period....but....you have instant proofing on the little TV on the back of the camera, and the manual-focus lenses would only be used off a tripod, probably at night....and, I could take readings for the manual lenses with the auto-focus normal 50mm 1.4 lens I'm going to get for trips and events and such, when you don't want to have to figure out an exposure....the best shots with my camera, though, are going to come through the older manual Nikon F-Series AIS 85mm 1.4 coming....in olden days, it was in a class by itself for image quality wide-open....wide-open, you can blur the background quickly to intensify the effect of the focused subject but a few feet away.....

True, but unfortunately money doesn't grow on trees. For most people it must be earned and earned in very small increments.

.....well, the two manual F-Series lenses just showed....the 85mm 1.4 is immaculent, and came with a Hoya UV on it, and a rear-pupil lens cap....the 135mm 2.0 looks like it's been in a bar-room fight with a woman's fingernails, and is fairly scratched up....no scratches on any glass, though, and it came with no caps....the 85mm got the new 72mm Hoya Skylight, and the used 72mm Hoya UV is now on the 135mm....I guess it's time for a camera body to use them with, or I've got a couple of fairly expensive paper-weights....(notice how I put myself in the position to need the camera body?)....I am anxious to post some snaps for you guys....I have grown over the years to be decent in picture composition and cropping....I'll be a little limited now as per no zooms, but guys, listen....zooms are two groups of groups, in the internal glass opticals....it has to be that way to be able to zoom....you just got less image quality when you snapped that zoom lens on the body.....some say if a zoom is all the way in at it's limit of the low, ie-set at 70 on a 70-200 zoom, it will lose no image quality....bull....it's still two groups of groups even against each other.....buy primes for image quality, zoo the scroooms.....

==============================
==============================
==============================
==============================
==============================
YOUR PHYSIQUE:
You develop a noticeable potbelly. (-15)
You develop a noticeable potbelly and exercise to get rid of it (+10)

You say, "It doesn't matter, you have one too." (-10,000)
==============================
ENJOY THE 'BIG' QUESTION:
She asks, "Do I look fat?" (-5) (Yes, you LOSE points no matter WHAT you say.)
You hesitate in responding. (-10)
You reply, "Where?" (-35)
Any other response. (-20)
==============================

An old Cherokee Indian is teaching his grandson about
life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies,
false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope,
serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy,
generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you -and inside
every other person, too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then
asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Negative. :D If Aerogel is essentially glass it'll have similar properties, namely compressive strength greater than that of steel but negligible tensile strength by comparison. It'll also tend to fail in a sudden brittle as opposed to ductile manner, the latter of which helps give warning of imminent collapse.

http://www.toltecimages.com/trains/4449.jpg.....Major, you definitely want the cab on the head end, except when colliding with a gasoline tanker at a crossing, haha....I have yet to be involved with a collision, but sure have come close three or four times with cars....about 15 years ago, mandatory ditch lights on the head end of freight and passenger trains made them much more visible, especially at night....it looks like the sun coming down the tracks, day or night, but especially at night.....
.....Guys, be careful at crossings....the head end locomotive by itself nowadays, weighs a little over 200 TONS....then there's more engines, and what can be 135-150 loaded cars....a loaded coal train with three engines and 135 loaded cars coming downhill toward a crossing using the engine's dynamic brakes to keep the train speed constant downhill, renders the loaded coal train "bunched up" with the cars and engines against each other at the drawbars, and can represent over 19,000 ""TONS"" hitting a vehicle at that crossing....the train hitting your car doesn't kill you....the side of your car suddenly being propelled into you, jagged with sharp metal edges, is what kills you, stick/slice/chop....correct, I'm trying to get your attention and paint a picture in your minds....don't ever go around crossing arms, or not look both directions at ANY railroad crossing....and, if you go around crossing arms and make it fine, if a local policeman witnesses the event, you will get to contribute to the next Policeman's Ball, trust me....I've had policemen stalk our head end leaving town watching for cars to go around crossing gates many times....easy money.....
.....Major, that picture of the Southern Pacific steam passenger consist looks real nice....Union Pacific absorbed Southern Pacific back in about 1996, and Burlington Northern absorbed Sante Fe about the same time, I think....if you want to see really sharp paint jobs on old passenger consists, look at Sante Fe engines from the steam days with the traditional theme "War Bonnet"....they are considered to be the standard paint job others were measured against....from the cover of a 1945 magazine......

http://www.steamlocomotive.com/streamlined/scrapped/.....that is correct, Major, the original F7 passenger locos were diesel-electric, and broke in like the early to mid 40's....steam continued to carry the load in freight service for a few more years until diesel-electric was refined to pull seriously heavy tonnage.....here's one....there are only two suppliers of locomotives in the US, General Electric, and Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc....all railroads in the US have the same models from these two suppliers, the only variable being a different paint job....I have ridden in many different locos that were leased from other railroads while working for UP, and unless you went outside and saw the paint job, you thought you were just in another UP unit....the only cabs I have ever ridden in that were different, was various CN, Canadian National, units that have a microwave and hot plate w/coffee pot....I suspect CN units come supplied that way because it gets much colder up there, with an occassional snow-in....the drawback of CN units is, they have no air conditioning....in the hot and humid Southern Summer when I ride on one of the CN leased units, I have to scotch the front door open a couple inches for a little air flow into the cab ending up going out the windows, or we would melt......

.....well, Guys, it's time to put up or shut up concerning my sweet chicken sauce, "Nectar Of The Gods".....I'm gettin' in a bbq contest locally....it's being organized by concerns in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and promoted by the most popular talk radio station in Little Rock....the actual cooking will be held outside Alltel Arena in North Little Rock, with judging both outside and inside the arena structure....I'll be entering two categories, chicken, and sauce....it is optional, and I suspect prudent, to enter the sauce category with chicken pieces using the sauce....the sauce category must be submitted at 10a....the chicken category must be submitted by 12p.....I'll simply charcoal three chickens for each deadline and submit....I'm excited....this is a passion with me, and it's high time to put my sauce against others....anyone can learn to smoke or charcoal meat, but the sauce must be killer to rank highly....yes Sir, I'm quite excited and anticipant....the first prize in the chicken category is $1000 and a trophy, with a $75 entry fee....if you do as well as third, you get your money back with a $75 dollar prize and a dinky-butt trophy.....the sauce category has a $500 first prize and trophy, with a $35 entry fee....once again, coming in third gets your money back and a dinky-butt trophy....here we go.....

A true pepper head......Major, back in the mechanical dept on third shift, a few of us would put fresh whole jalepeno peppers in a blender with a few shakes of the tabasco bottle, pour it out in a bowl, and dip it straight with chips....sweat would literally RAIN out of my hairline and run down my face....one guy was so ugly sweat would only run down the back of his head, haha....seriously though, you sorta' got used to the burning to where it became only a sizzle, but that butthole still burned the next day....can't do that anymore, ain't got the cast iron stomach I used to have....

Politics!
Actually this is kind of fun.
You'll be asked just 10 questions, and then it instantly tells you where you stand politically. It shows your position as a red dot on a "political map" so you'll see exactly where you score. The most interesting thing about the Quiz is that it goes beyond the Democrat, Republican, or Independent. The Quiz has gotten a lot of praise. The Washington Post said it has "gained respect as a valid measure of a person's political leanings." The Fraser Institute said it's "a fast, fun, and accurate assessment of a person's overall political views." Suite University said it is the "most concise and accurate political quiz out there."
It's at: http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html
See if you land where you think you are politically.

Only for you Ron---
As for most I would say - if you are thinking of getting a semi-pro dSLR, I would get the D50.
Reason I say yeah to Ron - Is only because the D200 will work with his manual only lenses.
As far as quality-Once again - for the price - I would certainly recommend the D50.
And I have had 3 of the latest models.. The D50, D70s, and now the D200.
The other models can get away with inexpensive lenses - But the higher resolution on the D200 will show with the cheaper lenses. And it really should be used with quality lenses (or really know how to use your lens correctly). I am speaking of the 700.00+ lenses.... Over the 200.00 lens..
Granted it will work fine, but as I said - it would be best if you really knew what you where doing with a camera to get the best possible picture with a cheap lens on a D200. This will not apply (for the most part) for the D50, D70, D70s...
Or if you just are thinking digital - I would even say just get a 5mp point and shoot...
It will take perfectly fine pictures...
Even when blown up to 8x10
I use my 4mp and 8x10s are just fine.;)

Can Muslims be Good Americans?
Can a devout Muslim be an American patriot and a loyal citizen?
Consider this:
Theologically, no. Because his allegiance is to Allah, the moon god of
Arabia.
Scripturally, no. Because his allegiance is to the five pillars of Islam
and the Quran (Koran).
Geographically, no. Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to which he
turns in prayer five times a day.
Socially, no. Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make
friends with Christians or Jews.
Politically, no. Because he must submit to the mullah (spiritual
leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction o f America,
the great Satan.
Domestically, no, because he is instructed to marry four women and beat
and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34).
Religiously, no. Because no other religion is accepted by his Allah
except Islam (Quran, 2:256)
Intellectually, no, because he cannot accept the American Constitution
since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be
corrupt.
Philosophically, no, because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow
freedom of religion and expression.
Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either
dictatorial or autocratic.
Spiritually, no, because when we declare "one nation under God," the
Christian's God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as
our heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran's 99
excellent names.
Therefore after much study and deliberation....perhaps we should be very
suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. They obviously cannot be both
good Muslims and good Americans. Call it what you wish...it's still the
truth......

Islam isn't the insane religion that it gets portrayed as here......that may be true, Jaxvon, but let's make a comparison.....when a Christian turns his back on the pure of his religion, he may meet a gal at a motel, get sloppy drunk, or smoke a bushel basket of skunk-weed, to name a few transgressions....but, when a Muslim goes radical, buildings and automobiles get blown up, and heads get cut off, if I'm not mistaken....Matt, you have any comments from your observances?.....

Sounds like some self-serving BS put out by Christian people trying to justify their bigotry toward Muslim people. Islam isn't the insane religion that it gets portrayed as here.
I agree with this.

When Christians get radical, millions die. I believe that our war in Iraq right now is in part motivated by Bush's Christian beliefs. Look at the crusades. Look at the Holocaust. That's not to say that what radical Muslims are doing should be taken lightly, but they're not the only ones guilty of religiously motivated attacks. The more you look at history, the more you realize that religion is at the root of basically every major war.

Look at the crusades. Look at the Holocaust.....the Crusades were in a barbaric time under different covenants, Jaxvon....and Hitler was a Christian???.....

True. And secondly yes, though his devoutness is questionable. In any case, I'm not arguing that Christianity caused the Holocaust or any other large "holy war", but rather that it played a role, sometimes a key one, in the decision to go to war.
By the way, as far as Islamic states all being autocratic...
Iran used to have a democratically elected leader, but he wanted to get a fair price on the oil he sold to us. So we ousted him and installed a dictator that would better suit our needs.

Mule, that was Iran, not Iraq. Everyone knew that Iraq had a joke of a democracy.

HISTORY OF MATH IN THE UNITED STATES:
Last week I purchased a burger and fries at McDonalds for $3.58.
The counter girl took my $4.00 and I pulled eight cents from my pocket and gave it to her.
She stood there, holding the nickel and three pennies. While looking at the screen on her
register, I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters back,
but she called the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her,
she just stood there and cried.
Why do I tell you this? Because of the following evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:
Teaching Math In 1950
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
4/5 of the price. What is his profit?
Teaching Math In 1960
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?
Teaching Math In 1970
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
$80. Did he make a profit?
Teaching Math In 1980
A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is
$80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.
Teaching Math In 1990
A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and
inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the
preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20.
What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation
after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger
cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers.)

Un ranchero vende una carretera de madera para $100. El cuesto de la
produccion era $80. Cuantos tortillas se puede comprar?

A similar thing happened to me a few years ago at a McDonald's.
In my case the girl was smart enough to actually eneter into the register $4.08. (Using your numbers Mule)
When she saw the change she owed me was exactly 50 cents she looked at me as if was a mental giant and had just discovered the exact value of Pi.
Very sad.

Very sad......NoMoSony, people have no choice but to play the game of life with the hand dealt to them in most cases....when I enter a fast-food establishment, I know already the persons I will deal with are making around minimum wage....those who offer a bright smile and wait on me to the best of their ability, I admire, and their example aspires me to handle myself in the same manner.....
Agreed.
However what I find disturbing is walking into an establishment and instead of getting a smile from an admittedly underpaid paid person being greeted with attitude, bad attitude. The impression I get is "I'm too good for this".
I not arguing that in many cases people are dealt lousy cards. But just getting pissed off about it and blaming the the dealer ain't the way to go.
You choose to take the high road on most every situation. I've learned this from the tone of your posts. And good for you. Truly, I admire that.
I on the other hand I am far more cynical. And no apologies for that from me.
I just don't feel it's right to treat some one making minimum wage as if they're handicapped in some way.
My intention was was not fault the girl who was amazed by my "math skills".
It was intended, at it's most serious degree, as a commentary on education. But more than anything as what I thought was funny story. (OK not all that funny)

(OK not all that funny).....good thoughts well said, NoMoSony....I guess I'm a little sensitive toward someone working minimum wage, because that's what my ex is doing now....she's on her feet the whole shift, and grosses a whopping 56 bucks for 8 hours....and, it's apparently difficult to rise above minimum wage jobs once you're there, especially this day and time when jobs are scarce, and the total personage seeking work is large......
