Default Analog inputs and bass management

If I want a 2.1 output and use the stereo analog inputs of my receiver, will the signal remain in the analog domain or will my receiver convert it to digital to perform base management? For example, if I wanted to use an Oppo 95 or turntable as an analog source I don't think it would make sense if the signal had to be converted to digital first to send output to the sub. My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V2400 if that matters.

    Thanks

The analog inputs bypass any digital bass management. That must be handles in the source. If the source has nosubwoofer output, the your subwoofer won't work. But the plus side is that as far as the receiver is conderned, the speakers will be seen as "large". ...unless the source can over-ride this.

    Not correct.

This only applies to m/c inputs.

In 2-ch stereo, the x-over is employed provided the mains are set to SMALL.

True. I interperted this as referring to the multi-channel inputs such as one might use for Blu-Ray players. I ran into this situation myself recently.

For the "regular" inputs that go through the total preamp section, you are correct, although I think the sub is still disabled if he chooses the "pure direct"* mode.

    *or whatever it's called.

As for bass management, it should only be employed in one device.

EDIT: Unless utilizing a BR players analog m/c outputs.

In other words, anything utilizing the receivers m/c inputs should have the bass management set internally.

STRAIGHT will leave it in 2-channel without x-over and sub.

When using MC inputs it can ONLY be employed in the source.

At least we're both on the same team. Let's hope OP got the answer to his question.

Not actually. I was editing while you were posting.

    Then, I added my reply.

At least the OP is getting some good information.
