I am surprise to see that it is listed for $300 less than the 3310. I wonder if it is like the 4310 vs the 4308 a year ago.

I thought the 4310 and 4308 weren't really comparable to each other, despite Denon's misleading model number system (they must have the same people assigning model numbers and writing the manuals ).

If I remember right, the 4310 is a replacement for the 3808 and the 4308 was replaced by the 4810.

As for the 3311 vs 3310, the new model is 1.7 lbs lighter according to Denon's specs. The 3311 does boast Audyssey XT over the 'normal' Audyssey from the year before, has a direct iPod connection on the front, 6 1.4a HDMI inputs, 2 HDMI outputs, and 7.2 preouts. One difference not talked about is the video chip... looks like they had the Anchor Bay ABT-2010 chip in the 3310 model, but gloss over what they are using this year.

Maybe they dropped the price because they were saving money on a different video chip. Or maybe Denon is just trying to grab more market share Hopefully it's not like the Onkyo 1007/1008, where they butcher the amp to save costs...

I like the fact that the AVR-3311 has 5 HDMI Inputs in the back and 2 HDMI Outputs in the back.

    125WPC x 7Ch is decent.

Does NOT support HDMI DSD SACD or DenonLink-4 or 7.1 Analog Inputs.

It's definitely not the replacement of the AVR-3808, although it has more HDMI Inputs than the AVR-4308 and as many as the AVR-4810.

I would go for the AVR-4311 in September.

Guys I never meant to question whether is is a 3808 replacement. I know full well it isn't as I have a 4308 and a 3805 so I know what to expect from a true 3808 replacement (i.e. the 3 lbs lighter 4310).

I should have been clearer by saying whether it is (3310+1) even a replacement of the 3310 at all. In other words, the 4310 (=4308+2) is not a replacement of the 4308 so the 3311 may not be a replacement of the 3310 either, it looks more like something in between a 2310 and 3310, with a few updated nicety kind of features. In other words, perhaps Denon may not follow their past numbering practice any more. It can be confusing for people who do not pay close attention to the detailed specifications.

Looking at the specs on the Denon sites, it is not clear whether 3311 has the AB video processor or Burr Brown DACs. My guess is that if it is not explicit it probably does not have it, not that I care. I'll take the money or put it in SQ improvement related items than a redundant ABT processor.

8 out of 12 latest receivers reviewed in Home Theater Mag has crosstalk values in the 70s @ 1kHz, which translates to 50s @ 20kHz, including Arcam 500, Yamaha Z7, Sherwood 972, NAD 747, Marantz 6004, Denon 4810, Yamaha 1065, AudioControl Concert AVR-1.

The only exceptions were the Pioneer SC27, Sony 1000, Onkyo 807, Denon 4310.

Does it seem kind of inconsistent?

How a $3K Denon 4810 and the $5K Arcam/AudioControl all have crosstalks in the mid 70s, but the less expensive Sony & Denon 4310 have crosstalks close to 90?
